Following Them Through Baptism
5/29/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Corinthians 10:1-14 KJV
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

Moses is called a type of Christ. He lead them but followed them through the Red Sea. Moses was called, "annointed" or tyoe of Christ to lead the people but he also followed them through the baptism of grace. Only the Lord knew that Israel deserved ti be drowned as Egypt chariots and Pharaoh did. Yet God gave them grace to pass through with following after in faith. A wall of water on bothsides never considering whether it would drown them.

When I go through or over any bridge my thoughts will it hold til I pass through or I go over it depending on whether it a bridge or tunnel. Yet because the road only goes that way there is no escape but to move forward as others follow on behind. Hollywood film directors have made plenty of money from human fears exaggerated. Yet in reality bridges and tunnels have collasped for centuries leaving both survivors and the dead.

We do not know if Pharaoh heard it was safe to go through the water or whether it was monkey see and monkey do that caused him to trust the water wall that day. Yet what we know is they drowned/died in the baptism of the word because hardness of heart and unbelief that began with seven plagues and ended with death. No doubt there thoughts if Moses could we can too, not knowing the word of God cause the water to cease from moving on bothsides by his word. Understanding who the word comes from and who it does not is important. They that followed not the word afterwards were destroy without faith in God, while Moses passed through last after the people making sure everyone went through safely and trusted in God's word as they moved through the parting of water. Moses with faith before him trusted God and followed after.

Those of Israel with such a witness of the power of God still sinned because of temptation in the wilderness and yet believed not the instructions of God. How can someone pass through water and ask Aaron to build a brazen(golden) calf to worship. We ask what does God have to do to convince people to obey.

Temptation was before his people. Not once but many times and they were destroyed by the wrath of man and also the wrath of God because of disobedience to the word of God. Yet their was a remnant of believers.

How many us face temptation of many things that lead not to death but are bad choices. How many push the snooze button without looking at the time to make sure it is the first alarm sound. How many were late three days in a row finding themselves without a job. Let the button tempt and you loose not the ability to sleep but the means to survive.

God calls his people there is no more chances to escape the wrath of God but many think they have plenty of time and press the snooze alarm. As believer in Christ we only have to do one thing trust and obey. Has the song goes to be happy in Jesus we are to trust and obey. God's world flee fornification and Idolatry. Also says to love one another as you would yourself. Do you respect yourself as you do others?

There is no temptation one can not overcome or be delivered from if we trust the word of God. There is no temptation we can not overvome by the word of God. The results of our temptation matters to God but he will not change the outcome for following the devil and not trusting him without repentance and seeing the error of his ways. God's word helps us defeat the devil.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to flee from temptation of the enemy of your word reminding us of the value of your word through the ages. Thank you for the anoint Son Jesus who is the word in the flesh to all that follow him.. He fulfilled the law by going to the cross and rising again as the sacrificial Lamb for our sin. He was obedient through death and resurrection. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 John 4:1-11 KJV
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
