1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 KJV
1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Thief in the night does he rob you of your sleep. God coming like a thief in the night why are we not awake all hours of the day and night. We are children of the light and not the darkness. We are children of the light but He coming like an intruder like a thief to claim his children. We told to stay awake and keep watch but most of us doing that would sleep during the day. Then we appear children of the night by hours we are keeping. Yet are time God stirs us awake in the night are need to sleep might win but on important things God holds are attention to prevent sleep. God able on those nights to give us the strength we need. The waking for a reason.

The picture in the Gospels of Jesus was resting as a storm is outside the place he was sleeping inside the inner part of the ship. The picture of the disciples resting while Jesus is praying in the garden before the betrayal. Jesus first trial came in the night. Peter watch the going ons the night only to deny Jesus. We know whether at rest or triful disturbs. We find ourselves in a storm surrounding us. Whether our storm is spiritual, physical, emotional or more then one storm at a time will rise despite the hour it arises. We can not avoid the storm but must face it without hiding behind our resolve of it truly is not happening. Some point we must face, deal and hopefully conquer it.

The night of Jesus betrayal the disciples woke not in enough time but at the moment the soldiers and Judas arrived. Jesus had said lets go the hour upon us when the next scene of Judas betraying kiss. Peter gallantly sword want to know as he cut one soldiers ear off if he was to fight. As Jesus healed the man's ear. He asked the soldiers why they came as a thief in the night. In John they fall backwards declaring Christ ability to stop them. Instead it was God's will to allow the arrest. As the disciples watch while others fleed Peter humbly followed Jesus to the location of the trial. Peter going on quietly sat and conversed with others when they began accusing him of being one of his followers. After three denials tge rooster crow. Jesus looked at Peter as if to say I told you so. Peter went outside and wept bitterly.

Peter account of the storm in the boat, ends with the question even waves obeyed him. Nature fury controlled but the storm of the cross went on by the will of God.

Our hour of unrest controlled by things that we can not control. For those with aches and pains it often depends on ability of being comfortable to be at rest.

Jesus finds no rest in garden but test within the boat. The disciple found rest on the night of betrayal when they should of stayed awake. Yet God demonstrated his power in Christ storm to save him. Yet Jesus went willingly without a fight.

Rest before tribulation, awake in the middle of the night because God haa a purpose for both. Yet who sleeps with storm warnings. I do if my husband watching and listening to the storm. Who watching for Christ return. Who is listening to the wage of war as if Christ return is any second now. We all go about our business as if it is not yet failing to hear the time might be now. God's call on your life is either preparation for his will or time is now.

Dear Heavenly Father Prepare us gor ypur will in our life and help us to walk not in slumber but by the call of the Spirit with faith and love as our shield and helmer as the hope of salvation protecting us. In Jedus precious name, Amen.

10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
