Virtuous Women Part 12
5/12/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 1:28-30 KJV
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art tho among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

Today we finish Virtuous Women Study with the mother of our Lord. Mary not called Virtuous but her attributes as Mother of Jesus declares it. The call of Mary before she knew a man. The call of Mary as a young woman full of faith. Yet she would grow in faith from the time she would be told she a virgin would have a child and call him Jesus. No doubt she faced chastisement because she was unwedded and young woman based on the culture of the Jewish people. No doubt her inward struggles as well would cause her some grief, joy and confusion. Not new to faith but new to God using her whole being for God's spiritual deliverance of the world. From Elizabeth, Zachariah, Simeon and even Anna prophesying before and after baby Jesus was born caused her to ponder about this great thing God would do through her son for the people of Israel. No doubt at the cross her eternal struggle grew as Jesus told John the disciple to take care of her as the sword pierced her own soul with realization Jesus has died. John catering to Mary as a son.

We can only imagine the inner strength of Mary, and her strong ability to have faith in her own hours of need. Her own virtue never question as he hung on the cross and Jesus' command his mother to look after John. John was probably lost his emotions as he witness the cross. John would also write about the day after the Sabbath day rest as the victory unfolded with Christ's resurrection and even admitting at the end of the book that there were too many wonderful stories to record them all.

Mary chosem strong in faith though the angel only said,"Mary you are highly favored with God". Simeon in his prophesy spoken words of valor of what would come with the journey of raising and caring for her son until his death. A final part of the tradition of who he fully was, coming with the resurrection and human compassion she would need, even after the resurrection and Christ ascension in to heaven from John the disciple who would care for her as his own mother. Virtuous no doubt she was, but with age she still was in need of love and someone to care.

Dear Heavenly Father, their are things mother's go through perhaps only God understands because he reads their heart, but something a mother would understand as children test and try their mother's patients, compassion and strength. Be with all mother's out their and grant them faith, inner strength, and ability in days ahead. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Luke 2:34-35 KJV
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

John 19:25-27 KJV
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
