Virtuous Women Part 11 5/11/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisRuth 3:1-18 KJV
1 Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2 And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
3 Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
4 And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
5 And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
6 And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
10 And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
12 And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
14 And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
15 Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
16 And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
17 And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
18 Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
Ruth was a woman strength, mighty, ability, and efficient in her duties to her mother inlaw making her a woman of virtue. Ruth had followed her mother inlaws advice culturally and had feed them with barley grain all during the season and there would be a time of celebration with the final barley harvest. Her mother in law told her to mark the place Boaz laid down and when all were asleeping to lay down at his feet after uncovering them. Boaz woke before morning light and seen someone slept at his feet. He asked who it waa. Ruth told him who she was. Boaz promise as near kinsmen to do the best for her, and at morning light to taking six cups of barley with her. She left with the barley at first light and took six cup of barley with her. She told her mother inlaw all that happened.
Naomi told her daughter in law Boaz would do all he could and make it right being near kin, for she was kin through marriage and found grace among the people of that area for she was a woman of virtue. Something else was happening Boaz was removing Naomi shame among the people because she had no sons to care for Ruth. Naomi knew Ruth would be cared for by Boaz.
As people get older and they begin to loose love ones especially if they have or had a small income, they wonder what will happen when tgey are no longer able to work or family has passed on, but still able to be at home. They are trap by health in many cases. No longer active in the community. People that they know may check on them but no guarantee how long these people will last that care about them. They dont know who to trust when older and less involved in the world outside their home. Naomi had been saved twice by Ruth. Ruth traveled back to Naomi homeland with her and then stayed and took care of her. Then Naomi found a way to take care of her daughter inlaw.
One of the many works of the church is to care for widows , orphans and elderly that had been active or attended their church. There even community projects that help with needs of people but they seldom heard about. It is one of keeping elderly and disabled and cared for.
This Mother's day do know some one that have children far away or woman without children who you could spend time with just sharing about the gifts of having women or their own mother part of your life or having themselves in your own life. Making it special day for them. Season of caring is not just for winter months but all year around. Let us take care of ourselves and others.
Dear Heavenly Father send help the elderly, the lonely, the widows and orphans of our world. Unite people in Christian chariety and hope to know they are not alone. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: 1 Timothy 5:2-5 KJV
2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.
4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
