Are You A Hearer And See
3/21/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 10:17-24 KJV
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
23 And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
24 For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

To have power over the enemy. In the same verse it speaks of treading on serpents and scorpions. Now I know how to squish a bug but the thought terrifies me to squish a scorpion or a snake. Yet I once squished a copperhead going into an apartment helping a little old lady home from church without thinking about it, I squished it and she had a fit. I teally did not mean to scare her. What possed me to just quished it must of been God because I am terrified of snakes. It be more likely to give me a second heart attack if I tried that again. Yes it killed the snake. There are times in life we do the unthinkable. All I can think is what was I thinking that is not how you kill a snake. You kill a snake with a long wooden handle shovel. Keeping distance from it.

Jesus says we can tread on serpents. In India they charm there snakes. Is Jesus talking about a physical snake? Or is he talking about destroying demons and getting rid of demoniac activity. Part of getting rid of some things of the devil is realizing some superstitions have no power at all. Other superstition and demonaic activity only needs to be castout in the name of Jesus or disproved. God's word is our long handle shovel. Believers shoes is our the salvation as God's word lights our footsteps. God's word is our sword to fight the enemy. Paul was bitten by a poisonous viper and no harm came to him. It gave him opportunity to pray for the ruler son on island they were shipwreck on.

If snakes are destroyed, and demons flee, your name writen in heaven. Jesus goes further to talk about those that hear and see the word of God in action. Kings and even prophets have desire to see the work of God. To hear the word and to follow God's direction. Only those whose name is writen down have or will experienced these things. In John 20 it says the believer is blessed that have not seen but believe. Two separate groups of people but both are hearers but not all can see.

Dear Heavenly Father allow your word to pentrate our hearts so whether we see or not our faith is made strong, In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study:
John 20:29 KJV
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
