How Do You Build? 3/16/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 6:46-49 KJV
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.I talk about building on the word all the time but what happens when a storm comes. Those that watch Survivor show know some shelters were built to last the entire game and other shelters would never last a good old fashion storm of any kind. Pictures of typhoons demonstrate nature's furry. Yet also demonstrates the sound structure near the shore that may face damage but still are as solid as the day it was built. What does it matter if we are built on the word of God. Peter standing on water had to face a little embrassement when he began to watch the storm around him and he began to sink. Yet this event made a good story to explain to the world the need to keep focused on Jesus. Peter is not harmed but in order not to drown he had to call to Jesus for help. He was probably a good swimmer after all he was a fisherman and knew how to row away from the shore.
Well Jesus does not just want us to walk on water and adore him but to build on his words by digging in the earth and putting him as the chief cornerstone on the footer of our house. If we build on any other word then Jesus, we will not stand in the storm. Many societies will say we build solid on another foundations. Yet it is like building on a scientific theory of probabilities yet it can not agree there is eternity to follow. When we build on Jesus, the house will last through and into eternity with God. For to listen to the word's of Jesus to the point we follow his word or do we listen to the word of God to only to go out and live like we want.
A storm blows in but the minister cant be found nor called because you never took notes about a church directory or the church bulletin or paper had a number of people to call in emergency. The person in the storm has no Bible to read, they dont have one verse memorized or Bible thought to comfort them. The Holy Spirit has no place to rest within the heart because he did not welcome Christ there. There is no comfort though one survived the storm, one feels totally destroyed spirituality with no reference of God in the storm. The next storm to crash into this person might completely destory them knocking their whole being into eternity.
Where is the foundation of hope and comfort totally missing from the house built on the sand with no foundation stone.
The value of building on the word of God with his word being the chief corner stone is Jesus, who also is the solid foundation of faith, because of his perfection being of God. When we trust in His word and not look at the waves we will not sink. If we build our house for the storm we can rest knowing our house will not be destroyed. We live into eternity though the shell of our being wax old it will be replaced with a new shell that is undestructibe because it is built by God's word on a foundation that will stand the test of time. Our spiritual house is indestructible.
Our preparation for storms in life came when we believed on Jesus, coming with the teacher of our hearts the Holy Spirit who speaks to us by scripture, through friends and through example of things created. Planting hope through not only his word but prophesy.
Dear Heavenly help to build on the foundation of faith as believers in God not just being hears of the word but doers of the word. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Matthew 14:29-31 KJV
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
James 1:22-24 KJV
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
1 Peter 2:5-8 KJV
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
