If God Is Resting, Who In Charge 3/15/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 6:1-11 KJV
1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;
4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.There always several things that disciples of Jesus seem in error of concerning Jewish law during the time of Christ; so another debate could be are the disciples under the laws of God or only followers of Jesus, though Jesus himself did follow traditions of Jewish law when his disciples seem not too. Are these men followers of the laws of God or followers of Gentile nation. Disciples lived and worked with the gentile nation. I think have ti ask what things may of been okayed because of regions in which they lived and worked in. Deep religious circles of Christianity sometimes honor God even to the point of harming another. Religious leaders one is to lead by example of the laws of faith. Laws of tradition. Those in religious realm but not yet at the prime of being ministers but religious may not be obeying all the unwriten laws. Jewish had writen laws to both groups as being one law. If we break down Mosaic law in order of faith, ritualism and society physical well being which laws were often over looked at times for safety and care of people and livestock? Yet even the most sacred laws for humanity sake was overlooked as Jesus pointed out shewbread given by the Priest to David's men. Yet the Pharisees did not point out to Jesus was by not obeying God and refusing David and his men what happened was death to the priest because King Saul was chasing David.
If we look at the value of the law David men were saved but the priest met his doom. When a person of law breaks the law does he die only if he is not law maker or enforcer of the law on another officer. In religious realm you no not to sin can you run from your boss. Where are you going to hide, sure can not cover it up. Why did Jesus not correct his own disciples? Traditions and culture even a few miles or block away can be different. The law of faith may of been lenient elsewhere concerning travelers, everyday folks of one region or another. Some laws among the working with people outside of religious law may of been relaxed. Yet Jesus and his men were religious instructors. Did that stop the law from being bent or broken.
Yet Jesus healed on Sabbath and the question Jesus asked is it better to do good or evil. When man with the wither hand was made whole, the question seem to be answered. Yet it angers the religious leaders to the point they wanted Jesus dead.
If God is resting who is in charge is the title of today's lesson. Yet Jesus response to Pharisees was the son of man which is a title also owned by Jesus. Jesus being God in the flesh by being the word of God was also human. Jesus allowed the correction of his men but also hinted at the Pharisee would have paid a price if not warning them. Though death came not to David men or Jesus' disciples. It not mean they did not break the law. It means their sin was not imputeth against them at this time.
Jesus on another Sabbath day prove that it was bettee to do good by healing. Sometimes being blind to sin can be good if those learning their faith haa not eaten the stronger meat of faith yet. God imputeth sin then he not correcting you this time but covering you by the blood of the Lamb which is Christ Jesus. Before Christ it was handled through the sacrificial laws. After Christ through faith by the sanctification process through the blood of Christ.
Dear Heavenly Father though by faith we are washed whiter then snow it does not mean we are sin free or without correction or warning. Help us to follow you even if slip and stumble. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
