Who Can Forgive?
3/12/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 5:17-26 KJV
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

Can anyone be forgiven and who can forgive? God forgave man of murder but not without correction. For Cain was marked by God and cast put of his sight. Is Christ better then God has Christ hung on the cross he asked his Father to forgive them. Moses killed was he not forgiven ? How come some criminals forgiven and go about doing great things for God and not others for Judas, a betrayer found no forgiveness though he diligent sought it.

The subject of forgiveness is perhaps one of the hardest things to do in the since of unjustice being done. There many things forgiven daily and yearly by people. People who want God's will in a situation has to lay down their revenge on another. The story today is simply about forgiveness of coming through a man's roof for healing. Four friends lowering him to reach Jesus. They knew the authority and power Jesus had to heal so they broke prayer line in a room of Pharisees scribes, and doctors of law by going through the roof. Jesus asked is it easy to forgive sin or say pick up your mat and walk? This caused debate and Jesus was acused of blasypheme. Jesus power to heal proved man had the ability to forgive sin.

I started today with a hard question concerning killing and persecution. Why there is murder God forgave and murder he did not. Cain killed innocent man. Moses killed a man in defence of a fellow Hebrew who was being beaten. Christ's died by man's law. Judàs betrayed Jesus causing his arrest, but was filled by Satan who was doing will of God to his ignorance of playing the murder. Yet he was nailed by the law of the kangeroo court with permission by the law to the wooden cross. Yet the world and those that did it were forgiven by Christ.

How does man forgive the worse crimes against humanity called falsely accused and hung on the cross. It is called being in the perfect will of God and allowing God to handle revenge, especially if the law refuses to obey it own laws in a time of judgment.

To consider just a hole in the roof needed repairing I am sure those young men fixed it as good as new or close to it. Maybe Jesus went up being the human son of Joseph a carpenter and aided in the fixing after the meeting. We dont know what happened but we know a man was forgiven and he carried his mat and walked.

Can God repair the broken heart of forgiveness. He can but we must lay our torch of revenge to allow God's healing to begin.

Dear Heavenly Father work in the heart of man because you forgave the world of nailing your Son on the cross for our sins. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 12:17-21 KJV
17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
