Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 5:1-11 KJV
1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
What would it take to be willing to give up everything to follow Jesus. When it our time to die as believers one maybe ready to go, not only, because of faith but also leaving family and friends as well as possesions behind. The longing for eternity very real but what are you longing for? Some are longing to see their Savior and others longing for those who gone before. It the walk on this earth to literal drop all you have and follow after someone that person must be pretty important. Ladies before woman learned about their ability to live independently without a man, one use to set their cap for a fellow. Learn to make his favorite pie or dinner meal. Learn about the work he desired and even help in that field if possible. The idea was for us to marry a rich man and live a life of adventure because of their wealth. I really messed up. However we as woman will follow are men to their grave if we must. Life of independency teach follow no one. It a miracle that anyone follows Jesus. That not it it more why did someone not follow, should be the question. The reason being if he using you or your stuff to spread the Gospel do his will, know Jesus will provide for you. It not about wealth. Though the boat Jesus borrowed to teach came back loaded with a net full of fish. Peter knew that Jesus was not the average teacher. Jesus was extra ordinary man and Peter was a sinful man who asked Jesus to depart but Jesus said no longer will you catch fish come follow me. What change the outcome of Peter life that day was his paycheck. He found obeying Jesus was fruitful. He follow him leaving all behind. No doubt his father watch him go for he mended nets in a different Gospel. Moses follow God because of a burning bush. Paul followed because of a blindling light. Some follow because of hearing and receiving the message of life. Each call different but all left to follow the word of God by word, by appearance of Christ the word in the flesh, and by the Spirit of God propelling them to do radical things.
What caused you to believe? Do you remember asking Jesus to be your Savior? If not consider answer your caller to your heart today and follow him. Click the how to be saved button at the end of the page. Walk following in the light of the word of God.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to follow in obedience to your word. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study:
Mark 10:26-31 KJV
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
