Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 2:1-11 KJV
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. This story is being told by John both speaking past and present. This occuring third day of there stay in Cana Galilee. This story is Jesus first miracle performed. John takes note of Jesus prophesy of his time has not yet come speaking of his own blood shed on the cross and wine being used to represent his blood in the marriage feast of the lamb at the Lord's supper. Marriage feast both present by the bread and wine sacraments after salvation though all are invited not all are the church. Then the actual marriage feast when Christ returns to reclaim his church. Leaving the rest behind and judgement to come. Yet the world left see the church with Jesus.
Why is the wine important not to empty because is covers the sin of the world. Yet the pure wine was served last according to the ruler of the feast. End of covenant through sacrifice completed Christ being the final cup of the old covenant and bringing in the new covenant.
The mother of Jesus tellings the winebearers to do whatever he says. One because nothing but God's will could be done while Christ went to the cross. The woman were first to find the empty tomb and told the disciples Jesus would meet them in Galilee. Yet they waited in the upper room and Christ appeared to them. Men still do not listen to women but Jesus respected his mother's will though his power was not her's to control.
If we take the metafore's out it seems Jesus is just teasing his mother. John reflection tells us something more to the story. His reflection maybe his own word's not Christ was the Holy Spirit speaking, "my time is not yet". He does mother's the same as when we ask according to the will God and yet he does his mother's will, her human fleshy desires to help another.
God gave wine first his word and last he gave is best wine in the middle at the cross and last as Christ returns. God in th ebegining gave paradise by obedience to his word. Man failed in the garden. God gave eternal life through faith and sacrifice but not the garden. Then he gave the final covenant through faith in Jesus. Gave ot with the wine and the bread for you in me because man needed and wanted intercessor.
Dear Heavenly Father you are God that honor not just our will but our desire with your will 8n authority for your purpose. Remind us ask you in line with your will be done with faith, hope and love. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Mark 16:7 KJV

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? http://www.turtle30cshell.com
