Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 4:38-44 KJV
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

I usually focus on Peter's mother inlaw healing, because it demonstrates the calling of the sick to Jesus when his healing ministry began to produce crowds. He left and went into the desert and people came after him and told him to remain with them, but he told them he had many more towns and cities to preach about the kingdom of God. He remained in Galilee and preached in synagogues. He would establish a home in Capernaum of Galillee has it was prophesied in Old Testament and mention in New Testament in Matthew. This devotion maybe more informative then spiritual transformation. However history lesson are important for faith and understand of the importance of prophesy. This type of lesson often strengthen faith with facts not always discovery in revival or evangelism message.

There are a lot of facts easily missed when reading the Gospels separately, yet there nothing wrong with familiarizing yourself first with one of the four Gospel books about Jesus. However in time do not be surprised if you back track through the Gospel books as you learn them because not all books are all the exact same. Some facts have little value as far as faith but they may help draw a deeper picture of an event. Each of the four Gospels were written to a particular group of people. Matthew was written for the Jews because it contains prophesy from the Old Testament and other three directed towards different gentile cultures.

What I hope you grab hold is picture of Jesus walking, preaching and talking always landed him back in Capernaum. He did have a place of rest. Despite being rejected from his home town.

Dear Heavenly Father help us gleam facts that will stand the test of time about our Savior Jesus Christ. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Matthew 4:12-16 KJV
12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

Isaiah 60 prophesy of Gentiles.
