Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 4:1-14 KJV
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

"Man shall not live by bread alone but every Word of God". This is Jesus words to Satan. As Eve was tempted in the garden and obeyed the temptation of the serpent and passed her sin on to her husband who passed it to all mankind. Jesus stood up to the words of Satan despite his hunger and physical need. To do anything the devil tells you to do when God has said do not obey Satan but to follow his holy word instead is proof enough of the serious of obeying God even over a physical desire or need. Bread was a need. If Jesus could turn water into wine surely he could turn stones into bread. Bread is also a symbol of Christ body that was crucified. Yet he is the chief corner stone. God had plans already to make the chief cornerstone into bread. Satan himself could not do that. God's word is the bread of life. Jesus is still and always will be the rock, the bread of life and the word of life. Jesus represents eternal life because he did not obey Satan.

Jesus said to Satan after he tempted him a second time, "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve". We are to serve God and worship him alone as believers. The oneness of God being Father, Son, and Holy Spirit means we worship and all parts of who God is and each person of the Trinity(Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) as one for Christ is part of the godhead bodily.

The third temptation of Satan says, "For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone". God's angels are called to keep our foot from slipping by removing(bear up) or to elevate us from temptation. God promised his Son this, then he promised all his children that obey him. When we go through trials of temptation we are to worship God alone and obey him only. The word of God will remove the stumbling stone from our path and lift us over our temptation. God gave angels charge over us, but God's word heals and Christ blood washes away our sin. Angels can not remove our sin, only turning away from our sin with faith that Christ is able to remove our sin, blood removed our sin through the cross and gave us new life through the resurrection. Satan words are not complete, because by not worshipping or obeying Satan in temptation, Jesus obeyed his Father and did his will. Something no one else can do with ou Jesus the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God". Telling Satan stop he has one, no authority in his life and two He was to follow and obeys God. Satan had no authority and everthing Satan offer was already given to him by his Father in Heaven.

Jesus hungry and tired went in the power of the Holy Spirit into Galilee. We walking in God's power in our weakness He is strong. Our rest in his word we accomplish what seems impossible.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to trust in you and obey your word alone. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 91:9-16 KJV
9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
