One Scarlet Cord
7/30/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Joshua 2:17-21 KJV
17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

Escaping with a cord that would be used for protection. A cord that once it got the Spies going in the way of escape would also be the cord for protection when spies return with an army of Israelites. Rahab received the spies in peace because she believed the stories about Israelites' God. Jericho officials that searched for the spies within their city feared not the God of Israel. One woman's fear protected her family and anyone in the room with her on the day of Israel attack because the one red cord that help the spies escape knew who was on the other end of the cord when they returned. Who was on the other end a woman that feared God. A woman with strength and bravery to go against her government authority who had no fear of God.

Seven laps and seven days Israel marched around Jericho and every wall came tumbling down and all the people were destroyed but Rahab the Harlot and those within her room.

The story of Rahab is one of simplicity of faith. The knowledge of hope streaming down a window of peace and escape. A window with a cord that would bind Israel to Rahab as friend and protectors of each other. We may only see Rahab as a harlot, her sin as human being never forgotten but her sacrifice always remembered as well and her protection she gave to those that would believe. See it not our label of sin of what we are or were that cast us out it is our unbelief. No matter our station do we have a cord of protection, the cord of action of faith. Our action speaking what we believe concerning faith. If Rahab had not protected would she have been given protection. Sometime people of faith are in bondage to the world they live in, yet hope arises when how they may help comes into play by being the escape route. Faith is not tied to a crucifix but to a window with a cord of peace and hope streaming down. The crucifix not being our hope without a resurrection. Jesus became our cord as we step out in faith and action and upon his return our protection to all that believe in his name, he grants us his protection.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for a cord of faith that brought the hope of safety as the resurrection of Christ's brings not only hope but peace to God's people. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
