Camel Trying To Go Through
7/14/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 18:18-30 KJV
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

To be honest the rich man may have a harder time of receiving salvation. Yet the adult world struggles with receiving Christ because the work of ones hands is seen as a source of provision and comfort. God is my healer, Christ is my Savior and the Holy Spirit is my comforter and guide, because of faith. Does one need faith for survival of this world. Those with faith will say yes especial in storms of life or just living in the blessing of God's bounty at times of joy. It is faith necessary in this world. A Rich man can buy all his desires for the right price. The rich man without a silver spoon in his mouth will tell the poor man work hard and you can have anything you want becaused you earned it. The man with silver spoon will say it is promised and given to me. Jewish people claim and it spoken in scripture their salvation is like a silver spoon guarantee by default of being Jewish not seeing Abraham was righteous because of faith and obedience to God and that did not change. For gentiles were without hope though their deeds were good, but they had no faith. They did not turn from their idols formed by man's hands to a living God who created them within the womb of their mother by natural process God created.

Instead Gentiles can not go into the main gate of the city of Jerusalem but must go through a smaller gate for the cities security. The camel with his load of merchandise to sell or luggage just for traveling had to be removed to be replaced on his back after bowing and crawling through the tiny gate. Often these merchants traveling with camels would bring gifts to the temple of the people of that land with no faith of knowing if Israel God would be their God. The question by the ruler how he can enter heaven is most likely coming from a gentile who lived by Jewish law all his life and he was rich. Jesus pointed to himself as being the way the truth and the life. He told the man to sell his possession, give to the poor and to follow him and he have treasures in heaven. Ruler walked away sad because he was very rich.

Disciples listened to what Jesus said and said we given away all to follow. Jesus rebuke saying most never give up all. See the merchants at the city gate always reloaded their burden on their companion the camel.

Often sin is unloaded and picked up again with sacrifice or payment for transgression. The merchant goes in gives to the temple but never follows God. The rich ruler money was preventing him from having faith in Jesus.

If Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, salvation came with removal of the things that prevented faith and then one was to follow after Jesus. The cross being going through death of sin and human ability and rising in faith in Jesus. Giving the good things of this world to help someone else. Rich or poor, both have credit, family, friends and charitable organizations to rely on in times of crisis. Yet it faith when these things are removed or nearly removed that faith in God becomes like the wilderness experience of learning to trust in God and in His Son, to look to Jesus and not the things of this world or people in it. Yet God surrounds us with many things in this world to aid us and to use for his glory, usually a person of faith learns to put God and Christ first as there power source through good times and bad.

When time of medical crisis and God not choosing to provide a miracle or the the miracle can be the medical team God puts around someone in the storm. This week as I prepared to go this following week for a biopsy my heart prayer has been keep me calm, and put the team that is going to be helpful in my life together to perform the procedure to help decide the best treatment of what if anything they find. It takes faith to allow someone to tamper with the body God gave you. Yet medicine has come along way and whether the doctor and staff are Christian or not they have to obey God and medical rules or face consequences by God or medical review board and court. Do I have confidence in the system no but I do have confidence my Savior is not only in my heart but right beside me all the way.

I even have to allow God through Christ to remove the anxiety and fears of what is to come. It the human factors that we all wrestle with. As I get older I realize the wrestling with human factor gets worse. Our concerns come because of our inability to take care of things on our own. Knowing that with age things are going to get worse. The prayer is God surround me with those that need to witness your grace in my life. Let my life be a testimony of trusting you and not the things in which I can control.

Dear Heavenly Father move in each of our lives that we see through faith the burden can be left at the city gate and not picked up again. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 14:6 KJV
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
