Caught In The Act

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 8:1-11 KJV
1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

This story brings many thoughts of what were the scribes and the Pharisees doing: had they been a peeking toms or were they into voyeurism. Fact they took her in the act of adultery, hopefully she was wrapped in a sheet as they tossed her into the street before Jesus. What had cause her adultery, sexual desire, sexual abuse, or culture of the gentiles. The reason is not known. However had the man forced the situation then it would be abuse of sexual predator who knew exactly what he was doing and wanted. Why is the woman accused by religious leaders and not the man. Are they not both guilty of law breaking? Jesus asked the religious leaders, he that is without sin cast the first stone.

Jesus began to write on the ground and each accuser walked away. He looked at the woman and said neither do I condemn you. What was this man she was caught with an Adonis. Then he said go and sin no more. Yes he was saying she had sinned but he was not going to stone her for it. He corrected her knowing her heart and told her to sin no more.

The knowledge of sin before the Savior brings one to their knees but his love for us that says you are forgiven weights much more on the human soul of our own own injustice or judgment of sin of not only ourselves but others as well.

Is life important of another to the point one would seek revenge. Had this Venus of a woman refused the scribes and Pharisees knowing the Jewish law. Was this a roman soldier demanding payment of this Venus and then it be rape. I doubt it was a soldier for they would of not stop the laws of Rome. There a point to my speculation there is a reason this happened and Jesus didnt ask why or even details, instead he said your sins are forgiven. Whatever guilt she had she was forgiven. No longer judge and no longer condemned to death because Jesus said so.

If God has forgiven you through the sacrifice of his Son you are forgiven, and no longer condemn to death. If you have believed in Jesus you are no longer condemn to die for sins. You have been set free and the cause of your sin matter's not. Your not Eve blaming the serpent or Adam blaming Eve. There is a point, Jesus is not asking you why it happened because he seen it all, even in the heat of passion. He came to set you free from your willing act of disobedience to God the Father. The woman made an individual choice to sin. Our choice to disobey God needs his forgiveness and it comes with repentance. If your in a group that needs details of your sin remove yourself. Unless your lawbreaking it is between you and Jesus. Sometimes when one's sin is against another and it is beneficial to repent to them as well in a form of admitting and apologizing. If sin is extreme and told by another to warn or protect then it is for a reason and not for the purpose to gossip, to hurt, or to cause harm to another.

God can heal all sinners from sin. It through faith in Christ and reception of his forgiveness must come. He paid a price for sin of another but he was forgiving long before the cross.

Dear Heavenly Father help those that have not yet to receive your forgiveness through your Son Jesus, who can set them free from the guilt of sin, help them to receive your free gift. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Click the button near the top or bottom of the page of how to be saved if you need help praying to receive Jesus. There are verses there and a prayer to help through the process.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 10:9-10 KJV
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
