Who Is This Man 01/11/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 8:31-40 KJV
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. The question of the Eunuch after Philip sat down in the chariot with him was, who is this man Isaiah the prophet is talking about? The two verse is quoted from Isaiah 53:7-8 KJV "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken". This was speaking of Jesus and Philip began to speak about Jesus. The open door of evangelism open to Philip by the inquiry of the Eunuch who knew not Jesus. When the Spirit of God is in evangelism something wonderful often happens. As Philip talked they came upon some water and man asked why could he not be baptized. Philip making sure the Eunuch understood about baptism, in order to be baptized you must believe with your whole heart then you can be saved. Why is repentance left out and belief only necessary. Repentance is a big part of Jewish faith, Christianity is the new covenant which he is receiving and believing. His repentance and covering coming from the old law, which he would of understood and faith in Jesus was removing the sacrificial offering through Christ death on the cross.
The Eunuch is baptized and Philip was taken by Spirit to another town but the Eunuch went away rejoicing homeward because he received salvation through Jesus that day. That is summary of events of Eunuch story. Many of us believe but do we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior? I can not answer that for you. However you want to be saved then guess what today is your day of salvation. Press the How to be saved button it is free gift from God and free information on salvation from both God and me.
