What You Reading 01/10/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 8:27-31 KJV
27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.How many people ask others that read alot, what are you currently reading. I can remember my mother reading a book saying it was good and often myself reading the book as well. And yet how many take time to explain scripture to our impressionable children and teenagers who see more of the humanity of man sometimes when reading and not always the spiritual outcome of what recorded. We can get lost in sin in scripture and befalling because of life styles in scripture is not mainstream America today. Even King Solomon had more wives and concubines then what most pimps, rulers ever had in our day and time. Polyagamist do not even hold a candle to the number in this modern age and nor would anyone in Christian world encourage this life style but it happened in Bible day. Just because it did and King David being just as guilty with many wives does it mean it should happen today but it still goes on today. Many things read right or wrong it part of culture of a time or place that might not be your own. We read scripture not to teach how kings of land lived but his faith despite his life style.
This Eunuch a man of faith by Old Testament served the Queen and no doubt was castrated but was also high ranked in his service to the queen of Ethiopia. He had gone to worship in Jerusalem and was returning home. When a runner came up by his chariot while he was reading Isaiah outloud and not quietly to himself. No doubt anyone with him might of been listening too.
Philip side of the story, the Spirit of God told him to go join himself to the chariot. What did he hear running beside but the prophet Isaiah being read by the man in the chariot. Spiritual fate and God's planning of introducing his Son to a Jewiah man in need of knowledge of enternal life and the knowledge of Christ could set him free from sin for eternity. Okay I am getting head of the story. Knowledge of what and who Eunuch read about was at a loss to the Eunuch, he admitted the need to help in understanding scripture and Philip said he could help. The Eunuch invites him into the chariot to explain the portion of scripture he was reading about. Tomorrow we will read that passage.
When we read Scripture we find all lost souls or those in need of the knowledge promise Savior are people God sends his missionaries and evangelist too. God is a God that searches the heart of man. Philip was evangelist not pastor but preacher that went sharing the Gospel willing to explain scripture and the story of Jesus, who would be deep cleaned by the word and Spirit by faith in Christ Jesus. The pastor and teachers often teaches exfoliation of sin after salvation to repent once knowledge of sin come to light. That sin is cover by blood of Christ and we should not do it again.
Roles of leaders often crisscross when need from evangelist, to Sunday school teacher and pastor. Though any Bible Scholar can teach scripture most will agree it always time to learn more about God and his plan for mankind because of his great love for man. Salvation being the greatest plan of all to save those that desire to follow his Son upward and homeward bound. We can not be Jesus but we can offer what Jesus gives to mankind.
Dear Heavenly Father may your love to the world continue to flow. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: 1 Corinthians 2:9 KJV
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
