No Rain 02/25/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJames 5:17-18 KJV
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Several words of prayer no one in farm land want to here much less in the desert. Though survival in desert with wilderness training might be needed in areas of no rain. What we know is Elijah was not scared at this point to prophesy to King Ahab. He was not scared to obey his loving God until Jezebel threaten to kill him.
Elijah journey of faith is human. But his fears were normal response, his bravery to speak part of his calling. Did Elijah feel God's love ask him was he feed and cared for those three years there was no rain. If so was that love. His prosperity came because of faith in God, yet his prosperity was not of human wealth. Yet he was cared for by God providing a raven to feed him first and then a widow woman, who had a small boy, who was in need of food too.
Elijah prayed for rain to return and when it did it brpught forth fruit. Ahab and Jezebel repented not, but did you know God began to raise an army of believers.
Faith is built upon the reality of God working and moving in people's lives outside the home of Jezebel and Ahab. Who knew the prophesy and who knew what would be. After Elijah fleed for safety he finds himself in cave wondering where God is in the storm that came and discovers God not in the storm but in God's still small voice. God sent him forth to anoint a new king and prophet. Then God took him up in a flaming Chariot with a double portion of his anointing going on Elijah.
Dear Heavenly Father give us that faith no matter weather we find ourselves in we still listen in prayer mode to your still small voice that will lead us as we follow you despite our fear in our humanity homeward bpund toward you. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Whole story begins in I Kings 171 Kings 17:1-5 KJV
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
