A Sweet Savour Or Stench 8/27/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris2 Corinthians 2:14-17 KJV
14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. What do you smell like to other's and to God? After a hard day of work where you sweat alot you might only smell good to people you love and not even them sometimes. Those extra strength sport deodrients may not be strong enough to keep some odor away. Abel was not a sweet smelling sacrifice to God only a lamb would do and Cain had no desire to please anyone but himself with the killing of Cain. After the flood in Genesis 8 the Lord smelt a sweet sacrifice that cause him to vow that he would never curse the ground again anymore for man's sake because his ways are evil from his youth. He would not destroy everything living. The odor of sacrifice was enough to stop the desire abundant smell of death from occurring again. Yet their is time disaster comes to different regions of the world but God smells another sacrifice called love, by rescue workers and volunteers coming in love to aid the misfortunate, dying and living in a time of horror that makes no real since to us or our noses, why God allows two type of sacrifice, beyond reminding us of the stench of Christ on the cross made to us until we believed.
Paul talks about the odor of sacrifice of believers to other believers smelling as well as the stench we are to unbelievers. How knowing Christ own death was a sweet smelling odor to all that believed that he came to die for our sins by the will of God the Father. He was a sweet smell to God.
The waste of human life by people murdering, or injurying someone for their profit or satisifaction never brought a sweet smell unless there was purpose? Forgiveness came before the cross, but without Christ sacrifice payment for sin could not be made without the blood of lamb, goat or bullock(male cow).
The cost being paid by God's Son Jesus because of man's orignal sin. Yet God sacrifice sheep for Adam and Eve to be covered with wool. Animals taking the shame of our nakedness but Christ taking away our nakedness through his sacrifice becoming the sweet smell that day to God that man could not understand. The anointment at Lazarus table performed by a woman on Jesus head and feet for preparation of being honorable sacrifice for us. For he would be for us dying on the cross a stench at first, then becoming a sweet savour to all that would believe becauses he arose in victory over sin and death. Bringing the eternal hope of sweet savour of endless life to all that would believe in him.
Dear Heavenly Father we do not know not without knowing of the resurrection the sweet odor Christ became on the cross to you for every believer, In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Genesis 8:21 KJV
21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
Ephesians 5:2 KJV
