Where Are You Headed? 8/20/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisHebrews 11:8-16 KJV
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. When we leave home for whatever reason many assume if for college or work that home is an anchor point and reality is that time away is for learning or money. Does one think that one will return or find a place to nest and rest if their wandering does not continue to next leg of their journey of life. I do think when I left home, it had not yet occured that I was really beginning my own life away from my family and choice I made would effect my adulting years. High Schools really should teach a class called the morning after graduation. It should be told you are classified as adult and you really need to know this is the first day of a new beginning that you either begin responsibility or you face reality that no one else is required to do it for you anymore, though many parents still allow their children transitioning room into early adult it not always smooth sailing voyage out of the nest of childhood. Some young adults are thrusted into world of total independence and responsibility. Some parents have the idea there kids will take care of the family business and never leave home unless the adult children have other dreams.
What about Abraham he was called to journey to a place he would receive his inheritance. The idea of returning to the country he left was far from his understanding of what God planned to do. Last night there was suppose to be a super moon, a moon being seen larger because of location to earth surface. To me it did not seem to be larger or closer but my eyes are not great. But I did see the moon with my eyes. I was having a good eye night. The journey of the earth and moon around the sun being different because they are different.
Every journey is different but we all are waiting for out inheritance. Before Christ the promise of the Savior birth was waited on not fully understanding the gift of the Savior until He came. Abraham left his home for a country in which he raise his family in for years ahead of his family future generation. Abraham a planner knew those stars in the sky he would need a big home, not understanding true home was heaven bound. His childern following in faith by righteousness in God and yet God blessed Abraham both ways with only one Son to carry the family line of faith. Abraham had more wives then Sarah and Hagar, plus children but not all would carry faith. Esau example of Issacs offspring. Issac Abraham's son by faith. Is your journey of faith or totally free will. Are you doing God's will or someone elses will for your life. Where are you going? Abraham received not only hope but redemption by faith in God. That same hope given through God's Son, Jesus. Abraham follow toward his hope a place called the promiseland.
Dear Heavenly Father help each of us to take hold of your promise and follow after Jesus in faith love obedience and truth. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Philippians 3:20 KJV
