Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 4:16-21 KJV
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Jesus taught in the synagogue reading out of a book which probably a scroll. He read out of the book of Isaiah. He read a prophesy concerning his day and time and about himself. Jesus did not just teach from parables he told but from scrolls. This is important because it speaks about scriptures we to need to read to one another. He preached from His Father's house in the town he lived called a synagogue. He spoke in Jewish worship center of his day. His Father being God though he raised by Joseph. He spoke daily everywhere about God his Father. He went about teaching. The Word of God was important part of things he taught. Yet we miss much of it unless we reading the book of Matthew that often references the prophets.

Most of parables sound new but some stories go back to tales out of the Old Testament. However one has to truly dig for some of them. Some will take years of digging even with a good reference Bible. There is a point Jesus taught in a way Jews would understand if the read or heard scripture but it was explained in a modern way to his day.

This is important to understanding Christ death did not come to take away the lessons but to fulfill scripture. To fulfill scripture did not mean a repeat performance but learning that somethings still exist from the begining of time. From the sun and the moon and stars in the sky to process of smoking flax not being quenched and so for. To explain the priority of faith, love and forgiveness and to show us God truly did forgive. To explain his judgment was coming to the heathen.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for reinforcing the need to study scripture because Jesus read and spoke it's importance with the fulfillment of prophesy. On Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Matthew 12:18-21 KJV
18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
