Worshipped Him 8/13/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 14:22-33 KJV
22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God."In truth thou art the Son of God" said those on the ship. What changed there minds of who was. Was the excitement of Peter walking on water too. What we know is Peter not only had faith but believe if Jesus wanted him to walk on water he had the power to command it. Peter was not concerned about the waves, he was not concerned about anything but Jesus ability to walk on water.
How many want be ministers are ready to go in to the waves swirling around because they see Jesus ability but fail to recognize who else or what else is around Jesus. Ministry sounds fun to follow Christ command. To live and serve one another in Christian chariety only to get out on the street and find people do not respond necessarily with Christian love. The issue is what storm is around the ones in leadership that is around you. How big is the storm outside the church and mission field. Sometimes waves enter the ship chasing after Jesus and Jesus is already resting in the bottom of the boat.
Jesus bids Peter to come join him walking on top of the sea. When Peter sees the storm it about destroys him because his focus is on the storm and not Jesus. What is where Jesus is tidal waves all around. It bother Jesus not. As Jesus help's Peter to stand, he then helps into a place of safety where he ready to observe and ready to worship Jesus. The storm calmed as they enter that ship. As you enter the church it should not be a places of bad coyote/wolf it should be a place where thr protector wolf is. The wolf that blew the pigs house down yesterday was an evil wolf. The protector wolf like the german shepherd, husky, St Bernard or Lassie(collie). They mean no harm but show there teeth to enemy from time to time and protect the pack or herd. Jesus was a protector and a Shepherd but also the life guard. In the beginning of the story Jesus put disciples on boat and sent the crowd away. Usually discipled got between Jesus and the crowd. Then he went off to pray before catching up to the disciples. In fact he startled the disciples. Yet he hushed the rumor it was a Spirit quickly. However he never told not them he was not the Son of God or forbided them from worshipping him.
As believers in faith it our duty to follow after Christ and obey his Spirit. We may know that Jesus is the Son of God but what we know not is how easy to watch the storm once the crowd gets our attention and not Jesus. Yet Jesus is our lifeguard who ready to help when we ourselves stop thrashing and allow him to pull us to a place of safety. I can picture Peter saying thank you Lord over and over again. Not realizing his time of walking on water with Jesus was yet to come and he would not be afraid. Peter leading the disciples in worship in a safe place the boat. Continual Scripture Study: John 21:17 KJV 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
