Follow Jesus 8/02/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 21:22-23 KJV
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? One of the worse problems ministers and teachers in church have is knowing to much about their own congregation that they become concious of what they speak may sound directed at an individual. We may desire to correct, control and judge without regards how people feel, think or might react if there scenerio is in a lesson. Jesus did use judgment when addressing the religious leaders because prehaps they should know better. Only one time in my own life did I truly struggle with the issue. However over the years one learns control or knowledge should not be use in church to manipulate a person. Is it your business about what will become another believer or potential believer.
When God saves someone through your ministry or another, only came by you speaking what God was already working on in that individuals heart. We might speak the word that got others to the altar but we will not be the one to guides the believer outside the ministry or within one's church. You may disciple someone to help them grow and teach them how to explore God's word and you may speak prophesy into their life. You made even give good advice and pray for them but it is not going to be you to help them stand or face their own trial and tribulation.
Jesus asked Peter what was to him what happened to his follower after explaining to him the way he would die? Meaning Jesus was saying this other person is my follower what is that knowledge to you. Over in Romans Paul address a similiar issue of who will help another believer to stand in faith.
Watching a boss lay out directives to the course of where an employee would be in fifty years if he stayed with the company, made me think he got this man's life so mapped out he could not deviate or change the course his boss set for him. Yet the boss was expressing how he could rise up in the company. Not trying to control but show him where his goals could take him in fifty years. This terrified the man he quit the company before they told him what he could eat and drink.
When we get saved God has the map of our lives we do not. Yet we know our faith is able to stand because we are now one of God's children through faith in Christ Jesus and not under the law of sin but the law of grace. God prepares his children for his will to be done in their journey of faith as they learn to trust and obey his Spirit. Following Jesus never meant you could not meet your goals or desires, but that you learn that God will meet your desires and wants on his road to those goals which will bring happiness and contentment in this world. No not everything we go through is easy, God will take us through as we learn to trust him and as we learn from him. If God able to do all that for you, he is able to do it for all his children. We must put God's children in his hands and allow him to mold them through Christ Jesus and by His Spirit. If God can bring a person to the altar of grace then continue to allow him to do that work. Your job know matter what you teach or preach better be by the direction of the Holy Spirit. Do not drag anyone to the altar or away from it, but pray you will speak truth rhat God needs others to hear. Your job is to just to follow Jesus and His Spirit.
Dear Heavenly Father teach us to pray, not to control or judge but to allow your word to do it. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Romans 14:4 KJV
