Commandments Brought Death 4/28/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisRomans 7:5-10 KJV
5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
The law can be good but it can be consider evil at times. What is evil of the law it is the ignorance of the law that can kill you. I was looking and reading Numbers 15 in continual scripture Study. Applying it to Romans 7. How many of us if we read the Old Testament laws have found death in them despite ignorance of the law. How many have discovered the price of our sin would be death without repentance and sacrifice. As believer we are no longer under the law of the Old Testament. We are saved by the blood of Jesus.
We are saved by the newness of the letter but we have sinned by the law. A man received the law as law, but he was not ignorant of the Sabbath day law of not working on the Sabbath. He had need of kindling and went and gather it. No repentance with confrontation of the law. Moses ask God what to do and God told him to put him to death. And the man was stoned. Without pre knowledge of how laws of death were to be executed. And only reading the crime and punishment it seems unjust or unjustifiable by today's standards. We look before and find it was condemnable because these laws had not only been read but no atonement was made for the man's sin. The law of confession or proof of guilt did not stop punishment only repentance and making atonement for sin did. sin done in ignorance not planned out or without knowledge was repentable. One reaction maybe sin but the atonement for reaction would be allowed. A plot for revenge or to sin for some purpose death might apply. Theft a hand would be chopped off without atonement.
The law was never to be used to condemn but to point out things that bought death and the guilt of our imperfection according to Paul. What we fine sin is sin but blood application meant freedom of the law. The sacrifice made on the altar for the sin. The price that is paid for you and me was paid by Christ. Jesus died on the cross for Barabbas. The wage of Barabbas was removed by a subtitutionary offering. The lamb of God(Jesus) was slained. He paid the price of all man's sin. There be no more sacrifice for sin. Laws of our land apply if we commit a crime. Those are the laws of man. Not necessarily the laws of God. How do we today know about spiritual laws. Things God does not approve of but may not get us punished on earth for but corrected by God. If we walk by the Spirit we will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Yet we are still in the flesh and have needs and wants. There times we must give ourselves our needs and wants. If those things are met in ignorance of the law it is forgiven. If we transgress the Holy Spirit that fills every believers heart are we dying to sin no because blood of Christ being applied but we may die by the law of man. Ignorance of man's law does not mean a lighter sentence necessarily. It more of should you have known. Your title of responsibily the judge applies it and only slap s9me on the wrist, while others get long jail sentences. The Holy Spirit not only corrects but we may deal with chastisement from God's Spirit for sin we commit.
Dear Heavenly Father thak you for the atonement through your Son that we can walk freely with your Spirit's correction in our life and not face death. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Numbers 15:27-36 KJV
27 And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering.
28 And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.
29 Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
31 Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.
32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
