Compassion 4/27/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris1 John 3:17-18 KJV
17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
I was surfing around on social media. I do that quite a bit. I am often taken back how many ways people have found to share the love of God and to do it with compassion. People helping the homeless, others ministering through music in nursing homes where the Spirit of God seems to pour off the page straight to the viewer as the old person tears up from the lyrics of the song he or she is blessed by God with song. The care of disabilities that are almost beyond the hope of ever living normally for there condition it would take not only an act mercy but a miracle to receive by God's grace of healing. Compassion of children and spouses fill pages along with hope of surgeries that might or might not work with fund raised to help them. Child abuse awareness along with suicide to encourage people to report and aid those in need of assistance. All done in the name of mercy and love. Some churches, some are organizations, some Christians and some none of the above. It about caring about a need of another. No matter who shares it is most likely out of compassion and maybe because they have been in crisis themselves and received a blessing. For Christian is an act of love and mercy because of God sending his love through his Son for you and me.
God's compassion as he made clothes for Adam and Eve. God's compassion aa he saved Noah and his family because of belief. Elijah being feed by a raven, God's compassion. His compassion when Egypt was provided for in a famine and Egypt was even able to aid those outside of Egypt. God's provision for Daniel in the lions den. Jesus compassion through the four Gospels on those that follow him. God's compassion during famines, plagues and more.
God's grace in the battle of our life. Mercy coming sometimes with death and onward to heaven. Elijah carried up in a flaming chariot. Enoch went walking with God on earth and did not know God was going to teach him to walk into heaven's door. He did not return.
We as believers are to love and to love in truth and deeds as God loves the world. If we can learn to do that we come a long way in our faith and walk with God. Love is always developing through out our life. However who was the first to show love it would be God.
Dear Father help us to love as you first loved us. In Jesus preciois name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: 1 John 4:19 KJV
