Begin Again
4/22/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

2 Corinthians 3:1-18 KJV
1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

I was looking at this chapter and found myself asking questions why did Paul not think he need some kind of proof of who he and his companions need a letter or something official. Because their documentation was writen on their heart by the Spirit. Interesting thing about God's Spirit and faith. When one believes in Jesus or even before spiritual birth with acknowledgement of reality there is a God, the Holy Spirit begins to woo you to faith in him. A person can know the conviction of the Spirit. You can experience not only conviction of the heart but be like Jacob who was ready to test this God of his father to bring him back to spot of his dream in Bethel. A searching and a seeking of God in a way to he will guide and protect you.

Moses in his joy had cover his face because God's glory shine on his face. Israel in their unbelief had stone tablets with law. God's handwriting was on the stone. The vail that covered Moses face from Israel was done because of God glory remained every time Moses spoke to God in a tabernacle. In the tabermacle their was no separation when Moses spoke to God. The law itself being a vail or go between to God. The law first read in the wilderness and God spoke to the congregation of people. People asked Moses to be a go between to them and God.(Exodus 20), because they were afraid of God. The law was the first vail and Moses and the priesthood became the second vail.

The law being the stumbling stone of faith. How is it a stumbling stone. God so love the world he gave them the law to bring them to faith in him. The law was to bring them to the goodness of God. The law brought them instead to rules to follow of dos and don'ts. Christ own teaching and instructions can become a task master and no longer about faith.

The law should be second to faith. Our works cant save us. As long as the law is first in command in our life we lack faith on who God is or understand God desires us to have a personal relationship with him.

Yet we obey God's law when we walk not according to the law but by faith in God and Jesus who is also our motivator to live by the Spirit of God. What we first learn about Jesus is we learn he is a God of love and weearn what he learned his teachings. His teaching does not save us. We learn he is a miracle worker, we learn he died for our sin rose up victoriously from the grave to give us a new life in him through the resurrection.

The vail is no longer needed beyond the blood covering of Christ who covers us with his blood because of our belief in him. Because of our belief we can go directly to God the Father. Jesus is our High Priest. Our go between to God. Jesus being the word of God in the flesh we are no longer examing the flesh that died for us but looking how Jesus abolished the law of sin and death, by established the words of law writen in our hearts by the gift of his Spirit who is Holy. He writes the laws on our heart. That we can obey him and learn to walk by the Spirit of God.

Dear Heavenly Father just following your rules will not save us, but we must have faith first and learn to walk after the Spirit. Help us to trust in who you are and not the work of our own power. Knowing you Spirit testifies to others we are your child, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Exodus 34:29-35 KJV
29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.
31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
34 But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

Hebrews 8:9 KJV
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

Hebrews 10:19-21 KJV
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
