Promise of Power 10/23/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 1:1-14 KJV
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
The power God to move his people back to the upper room without them going about blabbing of what they just seen and heard. How could of keep quiet seeing Jesus depart in the clouds. Elisha seen Elijah take up in a fiery chariot and went back telling the prophets. The prophets went looking for him and found him not. Here is Jesus taken up and the disciples gaze upward til the angels told them he would return and sent them to the upper room. Ever since that day man has wanted to fly up into the heavens. People through telescopes desire to see where God lives, which is further away then beyond the blue. Unreachable by man's technology but can be reach by communication called pray anytime we call upon his name.
The hope faith the value of it and yet faith alone does not send one shouting, but sends us forth with hope of the promises of God by his word, who is Jesus. Not until the appoint time was the power of the Holy Spirit sent forth in order for disciples to preach the Gospel. When God's Holy Spirit came with power and the force that brought the apostles standing but speaking about not only the power of the Holy Spirit spoken about in Joel called the latter rain, but the Holy Spirit gave the power to testify of the wonderful works of God. With knowledge that they to might suffer persecution the disciples and others taught anyway about the love of God who sent his Son Jesus to die for our sins and rose again, that whosoever believed and repented would be forgiven anyone who asked and receive by faith his Son and the power of the Holy Spirit.
The first church established and six others were established and many more. Paul an apostle that came after the orignal twelve and during their time would help in spreading of the Gospel not only to the Jews but the Gentiles. Paul would travel as a prisoner all the way to Rome to plead his case before the government. This is Summary of the book of Acts.
Dear Heavenly Father bring us to action by your Spirit to share your love and Gospel message around the world. In Jesus Precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Acts 2:16-21 KJV
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
