Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

2 Chronicles 20:20-37 KJV
20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.
29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.
33 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongeber.
37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

Never align yourself with evil. Bold statement. Yet the truth is often not understood unless you know the panaramic view in scripture how evil effects oneself. Jehoshaphat journey of faith seems to be on the right track. He had a wonderful victory, and it seemed he put his singers in double jeopardy and yet they lead the military realm into what they thought would be battle only to see the commotion of their song had caused their victory between two different tribes came against Judah's enemy Seir. The people of Judah knew that day God had gone before them in battle, after all who would put singers in the lead of an army singing. God deliver Judah and King Jehoshaphat. A solid victory because the enemy was killed before they even reach them with bounty of jewels and other things. Yet this battle would not prevent King Jehoshaphat from sinning by aligning himself with evil men.

Our nation is a great nation but the minute it aligns itself with evil people, I will guarantee destruction will come. All nations should heed this warning. All business owners need to know this as well. Sometimes we can not tell who the enemy is and sometimes we know. Best thing is to remove one's self when you know the leaders are evil. To remove yourself and turn away from them. Allow God to win the battle. Why because Jehoshaphat learn quickly what God was going to do through a Prophet named Eliezer when he aligned himself with evil king Ahaziah of Israel. The ships that were suppose to sail to Tarshish were destroyed. Who is Tarshish, some may know this is a good one to look up and read about the destruction that would befall Tarshish. Tarshish was a powerful city in its day that fell because of the evil within it. It had many trade routes coming to it from the known world to make good trades. Yet it was truly wicked city that God would destroy.

Jehosphaphat seen the wealth the money that trading with Tarshish could bring and aligned himself with the evil King Ahaziah of Israel. We must remember that both Judah and Israel are Jews. Both are Israelites by birth but there was a split in the kingdom after King Solomon. No doubt these kings were peaceful to each other at times, and yet they both did not strive to follow God. Jehoshaphat a believer did not take God's warning seriously. Because he did not believe God after all he had already seen, God would destroy is work and his ships were destroyed.

You do not want God to destroy your work. You do not want God to destroy your blessing because you aligned yourself with evil. What God destroys is not of him. Evil is not of God. God cast all evil away even from the believer who loose something in the process but maybe gains and renews his faith. For scripture also say Jehoshaphat did not take away the high places(the places of Idolatry). The people hearts of Judah were not on God yet. Perhaps the demonstration of God wrath on the destruction of their ships was a witness to them about the need for God in their life.

Most of us do not want evil to befall us. Most of us do not want the wrath of God at our back. Yet it takes faith to know that God will destroy you or the wickedness, if you get involved in evil and the ways of evil people. I rather see the blessings of God any day of the week then the destruction of God. This month is blessing month but without the knowledge of goodness of God the knowledge of evil of God is often not understood. We embrace the love of Jesus knowing his love is great for whoever we are. That we must turn away from sin when we ask Jesus to forgive us. Yet do we understand the correction of God when we become children of disobedience. Beware who you align with. In the business world you can sell to anyone, but do not partner with people of Idolatary. Do not line yourself with drug world and drug cartel or even theives. It all around in many circles, know what it is so you can avoid it. Yet it better to see evil through a window then to be in the middle of it.

Dear Heavenly Father remind us daily that your blessings comes from good fruit you produce in others as well as our own. Bad fruit tree will not produce good fruit. Align us with people of faith and not evil. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 12:9-11 KJV
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
