Propitiation 5/23/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris1 John 2:1-3 KJV
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
The other day I mention Solomon had mercy from God. King Solomon sin continued, he heeded not the things of God in the women he chose to marry. His sin not causing his separation anymore why because of his belief in what God not obedience to the word of God. In fact Solomon did ritual sacrifice despite what he did outside the temple. He performed the sacrifices for sin. Sacrifices never were meant to give a license to sin. It is like breaking the law does not give anyone the right to sin even if they do the punishment for the crime. Yet for King Solomon that exactly what he did when choosing wives and cucumbines by dating foreign women that were idolaters. Did King Solomon faith become void, no because of the mercy of God and the sacrificial law to cleanse him from his sin. However in Old Testament days you would not of wanted to go out after performing the sacrificial law, sin and die without the sacrifice, because without the sacrifice one had to pay for the sin before eternal sanctuary. There is a place in Matthew I think is that speaks of it briefly. (Look for it if you curious enough too).
Jesus is greater sacrifice for sin, for he became the propiator for all sin, so there was no need for more sacrifice for sin. Not just of the Jews only but of the whole world, but there was condition by God that was given to all and that they had to believe in his Son, his only begotten Son that he gave for this redeeming grace. Faith in God does not necessarily stop sin but you can not live like the devil and believe your not beyond God's correction. God's correction will come upon children of disobedience because he loves you. His love coming to all whether they believe or not but faith defines who first as a child who you belong too. Meaning our works have a place. Solomon had mercy because of the continual sacrifice but as we know sooner or later Solomon had to fall to repentance. God's word being the intercessor between him and Solomon. Solomon would do the sacrifice and sin the next day. God uses Solomon as example of faith with both works and sin, his works in the form of obeying the sacrificial laws of sin. He obey the law of sacrifice but not obeying God's word concerning women he chose to marry and idolatry that he brough to the land through these women.
Now with Jesus as believer we receive the sacrifice for sin being Christ Jesus, but if we continue in our sin then God word says we truly are not one of his. Does God's mercy stop no, but the blood covering becomes tainted by crucifying our Lord Jesus all over with our sin. The need for Christ as propitiator for sin comes because the ability to continue to the sacrifical law would become no more. The new covenant was made through the cross and resurrection. If we continue in our sin, and not striving not to sin are we people of faith the answer is no. If Christ power is within us, he is able to keep us from sin if we ask? Temptation will come but it does not have to remain in our life. If we understand what Christ blood covered our sin as it was shed for you and me through the beating and the cross. If we can grasp the power of the cross and the power of the resurrection, we no longer desire to sin, though at times we may yield to sin, we have Holy Spirit as believers who is greater then our sin to help us to live our life abundantly for God, the Father and Son.
God does not leave us without help or hope after Christ ascends into heaven or even after our salvation. He send his Spirit to dwell in our hearts, to teach and to fight against sin through prayer and obedience to his Spirit, through his power as we yield to him and not to the temptation before us. He interceds for us to God in our hour of temptation.
No one is perfect, for all sin and fall short of the glory of God. It is by his mercy and grace that we are saved. It is his great love for us that we first became his children by being created in his image, not jew or gentile but all mankind. He gave the first man is breath and he became a living soul and a child of God with imperfection and the ability of free choice/will. Adam's sin got him and Eve cast out. God continue to give man is word of with sin came death, but faith gave eternal life. Let us not cheapen God grace by continue in sin, but to work toward living a life in perfection for him, despite our failings. We must strive to put aside every sin and keep our focus on the author and finisher of our faith Jesus Christ who is Lord. God sent him to redeem us in the flesh, but before Jesus, salvation was just the word without flesh and with the sacrificial law given to demonstrate God's grace. God desire to provide the sacrifice for man, not for man to provide the sacrifice. As Abraham carried the wood and talked to Isaac going to the place of sacrifice, knowing he was about to kill his first born, God provides as he places his son on the altar for a ram to get stuck in the thicket. The angels of God prevents him from killing Isaac and Abraham sacrifices the ram God provides. Jesus being the lamb that was slain at the time of the insurrection. His sacrifice became the sacrifie for all man kind in doing so.
Will you receive Jesus as the propitiation for your sin, will you allow his blood to atone for your sin, to cover your trangression for past, present and future sin? Will you allow him to be your Savior based on God's word alone and his love for you. You chose today if you are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb which is Christ Jesus the only begotten Son the word of God in the flesh. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being the propiator of my sin, for your mercy and grace in my life. Help us not to cheapen your work of grace, help us to live for you because of your redeeming grace. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Romans 3:22-31 KJV
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
1 John 4:9-10 KJV
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
