A Nurse To Care For Royalty
5/10/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Kings 1:1-4 KJV
1 Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.
2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4 And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.

The sick beyond those who were healed in scripture is a rare find in scripture, though many no doubt face illness at different times in the body. The sick were outcasted in a since and in yesterday's society and the sick are outcasted in since during Cov 19. It strange to see the day the sick are outcasted from the doctors office. That test are done outside the doctor's facitilities for a disease but it truly did happen in America with COV19. This procedures was done though necessary for all concern protection. It was unnatural for the sick to be refused by doctors. Our mindset comes to place of what? How sick does a person have to be for a person to be outcasted into the world of unrest. In reality it hurt more caring doctors then the world will ever know. Not to mention the nursing world that had to care for patience never knowing if they would see the same patient in the bed the next day because of a disease that was kill rapidly. Doctors and nurses are trained to fight for patients lives and could not. Today I going to be talking about sexual immorality and King David in old age.

Royalty in King David' day no doubt would have the best care he could receive by his servant who took care of him. When the body cold often the body needs heat from another. Cuddling in the warmth of a bed can be the difference in warming up and never being warm. Why did they not give the king a hot water bottle or hot potatoes to warm him in his bed. I do not know. However the servant suggest to look for someone he could cuddle up next to that would keep him warm in his bed and nurse him. How many wives did King David have at this point in time unsure. a young woman is found named Abishag a Shunammite and she became his nurse, a care giver, but not David's lover, though he cuddle up against her at night for warmth.

Some might still call this prostitution, enslavement. Culture here is far different then our world. Though David did not make her his wife, she became a servant to physical need of warmth, care and so forth. The nurse keeping her purity has she cared for the King. For those that know the warmth of a dog against cold feet know how nice to think of one's whole body being warm on a cold night. There are other alternative to companionship to stay warm today one being an electric blanket, a extra heater in the room and so forth, but sometime body heat is the best alternative on a very cold night in the purest form of compassion for another.

States for years have discussed legalizing prostitution, hopefully it will never pass in 49 states. Yet it perhaps could make it safer for women that feel they have a right to abuse their body or use their body for money. We see stories in scripture of prostituion, immorality among kings and the rich that can afford more then one wife and more then one, in fact some having more then 10. King Solomon having 800 wives and concubines. The deplorable nature of scripture on women, yet we must remember the time in which these things were occuring. Why did it occur, these men were said to be holy unto God in faith? Some might call it survival. There are woman even today that prostitute themselves to men who will never tell unless they are caught and someone tells about the prostitution debt of women. Women selling their own soul for money to care for children, love ones, hopefully not spouses(but it happens) and even for the luxury of heat, housing, electricity and water. Being inforced into the sex trade for survival.

When I hear the Vice President Harris says government does not have the right to tell a woman what to do with her body. I say she is correct but she is also failing to say the government is suppose to protect women against sexual predator, sexual assault. Rape and so forth. Prostitutes are jail daily in some areas to cut down on the sexual diseases, sexual abuse that goes on in some areas. In polite society people call on people that prostitutes, keeping them out of their neighborhood, but someone had to have let them in their neighborhood so to speak for them to be there. Most will not go to places they know they can not work. Think on that for a moment. How many prostitutes live in polite society and you never knew they were what they were until you were caught in "sinful part of town" on legit business? What man says women need to do for money, or barters women for is a crime in many states. Yet if no one tells then the crime continues in our world.

Why is it a crime? Why does polite society believes it a crime if it is in Bible. The women in the kingdom of David would of been look after in the palace. Jacob even paid his daughter in law for prostitution and his daughter in law framed him by the laws that govern Jacob at that time, though the law of Moses was not in place at the time of Jacob. What gives any man the right to defile a woman, to treat her like trash. To make her feel like trash. Government may not have the right to tell a willing woman what she can do with her body, but the government and other men should never have a right to tell a woman she needs to sell herself to make a living, to pay for a bill, or to care for her children. After all it took a man to have those children. When we look at the sexual crime in scripture compared to our world today, would all these leaders have gone to jail today. Jacob's son had a daughter that was raped, and the sons of Jacob killed not only the offender but the village he was from, and the man that raped the daugher of Jacob was willing to make his daughter his wife, but even doing so, Jacob's son still killed. Does it make the Jacob action of receiving sexual favors from his daughter in law in disguise right.

What is a woman worth. She must note her own worth and value to know the treatment of some men needs to be stop. That men need to learn to respect woman in general. No matter their career path they choose. Is Chivalry dead. His men respecting women still in vogue. Women you are not a piece of property. You are not owned by any man. You may be in a civil agreement of marriage, or making a choice with your body that is by faith wrong. If a man has no respect and you got a place to go get out of the situation. If you can not get out of the situation work to find a way out. Do not remain where you are not respected. Don't sell yourself on the street. God loves you more then you know.

People live in proverty everyday. Be thankful for the clothes on your back, the food in your belly and the shoes on your feet. And the shelter that you may or may not currently have because of the storm in your life. Even Abraham gave up his rights to his wife to a king, by not telling the king who Sarah was, but calling her instead his sister. Sarah was actually Abraham's half sister, it was not a complete lie to the king of his day. God has better things for the women that follow him. What was done by this woman Abishag did for a king sounds nobel in a since, the picture painted to look at as her only giving the king body warmth and care. Why did it have to be a woman, why did the servant just call in bed with the king to keep him warm. A woman on the kings arm looks better then a man caring for the needs of the king, I suspect was the reason.

There is a point, women, we choose how we live. We choose to a point how we believe and think women should be. As woman we need to train our girls not to take abuse, to not allow men to abuse our bodies or allow men to mistreat us for their pleasure and wants. No one today needs to sleep with the king or anyone else for warmth today. They use to make a bedwarmer, a metal long as a broom that would heated a bed placed first in open flame or fire to warm.

Though this is a mild story of a woman, who had respect and cared for the king, it also speaks of a time not today, but of yesteryears of solutions of problem that occured that in one since is abusive. Remedy and the respect the king gave the woman by protecting her purity in ever since of the word. David respected his maid because he was in need of a nurse and companion in his old age and yet he was famous king.

The downside of King David life not so pretty. He is accused of murder, adultery and yet he was a warrior and a hero but alone for his crime he committed perhaps. Only love he felt in old age was the care of his servants and Abishag. He knew the love of God because God was still with him even after death. King David's life upheld because of his valor, and his leadership of Israel, though he failed as a human in society his life was a mess. The stars on the road of success see many things, and their power buys them many things. Wealth and sin cause many to be looked up to and frowned on at the same time. Yet even so there is a God that loves and watches over even the rich, the people that gain much for the happiness of society and the safety of society. To think it not just in the rich world, but middle, and poor society as well.

Dear Heavenly Father, you are king and Lord, and yet we look at you and see your love is greater for us then the world even in our sin. You look at your children and say I know you love them and I know they make mistakes that is why you forgive them when they ask and continue to love them. It does not mean you do not correct, but you continue to love your people in their weakness of humanity. Lord help us in our weakness of human flesh, in the weakness of our human nature of sin, to see your love still for us as we fall on our knees and repent of sin. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Ephesians 2:1-10 KJV
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
