Take Her And Go
5/09/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Genesis 24:50-67 KJV
50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.
51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master's son's wife, as the LORD hath spoken.
52 And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.
53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.
54 And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master.
55 And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.
56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.
57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth.
58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.
60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62 And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country.
63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.
66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

Have you wondered why is Laban so ready at first to get rid of Rebekah. Take her and go, sounds like a command not thought so easily out. Some men and woman take years to decide to marry someone, others have gotten married because of convince, because of desire, because of love, and because some marriage are prearranged. Time before the law as Israel would know the law, society law did rule in the land and choosing a bride for a son or husband for a bride was not unheard of, but to send a servant to do the bidding of his master seems odd to me, it taking a risk that servant going to return, but that he brings back a girl his son can love. Abraham sent his servant in search of a bride among his own tribe. When the servant got there he met Rebekah at the well. She took him to her brother Laban's house. After sharing the story how he came to be at Laban's house and showing the riches that Abraham sent with him, he spoke of the need to take care of the business of taking a woman back for his master's son. Laban said Rebekah is before you take her.

A culture struggle and not only culture struggle but immediately the thoughts is will she go to a distance place to marry a man she does not even have a photo of. She traveling with who knows who this so call servant is, but he going to take her and not return with her. No clue if she will reaches her destination. Woman have gone to meet up with the man that sends for them for marriage, that has happened since the time of Rebekah. There is a red flag though that comes up, so many things could have happened to Rebekah that Laban would not had known what had occured. This servant could of been a slave trader or something worse. Yet when Rebekah is called and asked if she will go with him, she immediately says yes I will go.

Something is going on here we can not see, but we read about earlier in the chapter then is posted. The servant prayed to this God of Abraham and ask God for successful journey. Ask for help for the journey to find Isaac a wife. Does prayer change the effect it has on retelling of the story of Rebekah leap into a journey that leads to matrimony. We know that there is idolatry in Laban family, because when Jacob the son of Rebekah comes to Laban to hid from his brother Esau, he marries two women and one carries the idols from her father's house. A question occurs then is Rebekah even the same faith as Isaac the answer is I really do not know for certain beyond the simple inquiry of God she makes when she can not get pregnant and when she finally gets pregnant another inquiry is made when she becomes puzzled by what was happening inside her womb to discover she the wrestling feeling she was having was twins.

God is putting in place the people that would be parents of a great nation. The leap of faith being more then saying I will go. It is trusting God that what this servant of Abraham says is true before packing one's bags. Rebekah believed the servant and takes a giant leaped of faith packing her bags and taking her nurse with her on this journey to Isaac. Term nurse in scripture is more of a maid then necessarily a medical nurse. The term nurse is used for Miriam when the princess found Moses and ask Miriam to find someone to nurse the infant she found. Nurse being representative of someone that is giving aid or assistance to someone, not necessarily medical care. I can not help though think what did her nurse think, did she have a choice in the matter. Scripture does not say. What we know is Rebekah leaped more then just off her camel has she arrived to meet Isaac in the field and he takes her to his tent to be his wife.

Are we leapers of marriage, of faith and of hope. No doubt the jewels the servant of Abraham carried told Rebekah and Laban's family he must be of wealthy. Yet when Isaac takes her to his tent, not a house, not a building, but a tent what was Rebekah thinking. Humbles beginning, no they were shepherds and raise livestock and lived as nomadic in lifestyle not in a village like Rebekah had come from. Had she dreamed of a Palace, I have no clue. The treasures might truly been the only ones Abraham had to offer. Had she been deceived? I have to ask would you give up your village for a tent? Yet Rebekah legacy would be having the son that would be heir of faith in God and carry the blood line of the Messiah. Yet two would be in her womb one of faith and one of hard work. Why did Esau sell his birthright for a bowl of soup and not pray, because he did not have the faith of Jacob or his parents.

Faith to marry, faith to step out and leap on the occasion to marry is no different then when a person is convicted in their heart to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, yet one is a spiritual decision and the other is not, but both decisions are going to impact your life. Pathway to gold has always been hard work. Pathway to gold on earth has always been one of labor and not always faith. Wealth is seldom freely given without a price to the human soul. Yet when we give our heart to Jesus, we looking at the gold of faith. The hope of eternity and the blessings of our faith is the riches of faith. It not always a cross walk of joy, it sometimes longsuffering with people. The road of faith is often a leap, but it is also a road of hope for God promises never leave us, and he will always be with us and always our helper in times of trouble.

To leap into faith scripture tells you of the blessing of faith, and yet the journey of faith does not promise you a rose garden, but a journey of hope with God and Christ by your side and the pathway lead by his Spirit onward to the eternal resting place of endless life with God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Rebekah may of seen wealth, but in truth she knew not what would meet her when she reach Isaac her husband to be. We have the hope and knowledge by knowing about Jesus, we have the knowledge because of the Garden of Eden. We have knowledge as believers if we walk by His Spirit what it will be like to have Jesus everyday the rest of our life. Yet it takes faith to experience what eternity will be like daily and to walk by the Holy Spirit of faith.

Dear Heavenly help us to leap into faith in Christ to know the journey that is head is one of the Spirit when we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. Help us to walk by your Spirit, both with the knowledge of love, hope and longsuffering that can come with faith. Give us your help, even when it not the glory road we expect in faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 13:4-6 KJV
4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Isaiah 42:16 KJV
16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
