Anointing At Bethany 3/15/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 12:1-11 KJV
1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
Anointing at Bethany of Jesus took place before the Feast of Unleaven Bread a feast during passover week on Thursday. Meaning with the Triumphal entry on Sunday, the anointing was actually before the Triumphal entry. Matthew tends to put it about Wednesday. Yes we already into Passion Week, but we back tracking before the Triumphal entry. It is important to know Christ death is again prophesied not by his disciples or the religious leaders this time by himself. That the prophetical events were coming more frequent at this point. Just enough to alert and declare, to inform his death was coming. Was it stage event by God or some type of giving of oneself in some type of human sacrifice event. Yes I probably watch to much tv. However, it has to be asked why, because others will that go in the order of the events and explain the order of events in such away that it seems like one rehearse play. Yet when we look at many crimes, most are in rehearsed fashion of events. Using crimes to explain that though we see something prophetic it perhaps is not as prophetic as it seems.
Jesus' death is prophesy even from Old Testament. Unless you seen death prophesied one will not fully understand it, the difference between planned, unplanned and a crime scene. If I say someone is going to die tomorrow and some dies it it prophetic or a general event in time. If someone says they will die today and wrecks their car is it a crime scene, or suicide?If someone says they will die for a cause, is it a crime scene if death occurs, prophetic, or something that just happened as they proclaimed because of the situation was probably going to lead to death if it was not halted. Indian in a movie use to say it is a good day to die, he go put himself up on a burial stand and lie down. In hour or so when the sun was hot on his skin he would get down and leave. His time not yet come.
This anointing was prophetic but was it known to the woman as being prophetic at the time in which she anointed Jesus feet with oil and wiped her feet with her hair to dry his feet. She did this to honor Jesus, but did she know it be the only anointing Jesus would have before his death. Probably not but it would appear to be prophetic much later as the story is being retold by the disciples of events that unfolded. This is important because Jesus declared several things in this passage to Judas who wanted him to sell the ointment for money and give it to the poor instead of having it wasted on Jesus' feet and her hair. Here it is said she had kept this bottle for his burying. Did she know the time, was she aware of what might come to be. The prophesy of High Priest Caiaphas had taken place. Jesus declare they would always have the poor but he would not always be with them. With his knowledge did he proclaim a good work in this woman Mary. Did he use his knowledge to be blessed by this woman. Did she know exactly the time was coming. I do not doubt rumors had been flying about not only Lazarus her brother but also Jesus, from the Jewish council that they wanted to kill both of them. Yet had she only kept his oil back for a particular purpose as declare, I doubt that in regards of using it for Jesus. I do think like egg money she held back. She was saving it for that special occasion and tonight she was thanking Jesus in regards to bringing her brother back to life. Many believed because Lazarus was raised back to life. This luming threat was only a warning of what may come, it was not yet fully seen as prophetic concerning Jesus death.
Now last time I wrote on this subject I put it later in the week after the turning of the money changers and triumphal entry which by Matthew account it would be so. Making it prophetic to what had already occured by the events of the turning over of the money changers tables in the temple. Prehaps Matthew has this part in chronological order. Which makes the oil like chicken egg money, only to be used with knowledge it was preparation of Jesus potential death not fully seen as gong to the cross at this point. How this story is viewed whether before or after, is up to you, because of how you view prophesy and such. It also explains that some knew the serious of what happened though Jesus only started a chain action of events caused by another. Beware it possible these type of events can be a crime scene.
Dear Heavenly Father, your word is true, and your prophesy is true, but help us to distinguish between these things as whether true or false. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
