Attentive To Hear 3/13/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 19:46-48 KJV
46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.
47 And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,
48 And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
Are you attentive to hear the Gospel of Jesus. Jesus had just cleanse the Temple, rode into Jerusalem in the Triumphal Entry and the people desire to hear him. Prehaps this is why the idea of a man being killed in the temple inner court seems unlike by the High Priest Son Barabbas. Perhaps the calmness of those desiring to hear Jesus, never knew what had occured in the temple during the cleansing of the money changers. Historical evidence seems to say something different then scripture. For that reason you weigh the pros and cons of the matter. If you read the whole story in all four Gospels, the possibility that historical evidence is correct helps with the story of the cross. It was possible it was cover up and kept quiet til the crowds were begining to die down some, near the end of what is known as the smaller passover for the workers that participated in the work to help with the crowds during the regular season. This comes from research not from scripture itself what I speaking about. I speaking about it today, because the calmness and the attentive of the crowd to hear him speak. There is alot of information that says if this happened why the calmness and desire to hear Jesus. For example the events in Washington D.C. at the end of the President Trump administration seems impossible and even impossible to some that were there, meaning when the event happened it came after others had already left. Other's witnessed and did not wanted to hear the political leaders not only side of what happened, but to imprison the rioters. What am I saying it possible several things in the crowded temple area seen and heard more then others. It is possible that Jesus knew what would happen, because of who he is, but knowledge did not come til later to the disciples of what cause the turning of the money tables over did, besides clear the temple courts for those desiring to hear Jesus speak. Gentiles were only allowed in the Gentile courts. I do not doubt with it being time of festivals that these courts were filled with both Jews and Gentile people. Jesus would of been speaking to more then one group of people.
Who were these people that came to hear Jesus, but people who desired that had a need or want to hear Jesus speak. His fame so great they wanted to know for themselves and others already knew just wanted to listen. It is nice to walk into a church service where even children know to be quiet and listen to the minister. The minister speaking so all can understand. Little children even pay attention. Some churches are saying is that possible. Yes it does happen. Yet the confusion of niose of little one has never stop a minister from speaking or adult that wanted to listen never missed the sermon of a good minister and even a few bad ones as well. God's Spirit speaks through ministers, but also to the individual person who desires to hear the Gospel of Jesus.
When we walk into a sanctionary are we prepared to hear from God's Holy Word? Some will say some days my mind truly wanders from the church service and other days I truly focused on what being said. I even meet a few ministers that thogh someone digging in their Bible was upsetting to them, they felt the person could look later, but God was not speaking throught he sermon but the scripture to the person. Is our focus on what God is bringing to the individual, meaning ourselves heart. Is our attentive to God or the messenger.
In Acts Paul is going to preach on Mars hill because a philospher and others desire to hear what he was speaking concerning this new God or new faith, they knew not. They desired to hear the Gospel even if they would not receive it. Not every person that desires to hear, desires to receive. I admire evangelist that seem to know the right words to speak to people on the street about Jesus. I admire them because they even speak to those that wish they would shut up. Ever been told to be quiet to stop preaching. Have you ever been told they have no time to listen. We all experienced the I do not have time, I have something better to do. We need to be willing to seek a time they will listen for a few moments even if it is only five minutes. I gave a group of people 15 minutes one night online and nothing happened, I left with leaving my calling card. What is my point you take to much of someone's time they will resent you in time. You let a person acknowledge they will like to hear, then you make yourself available to them to share the Gospel.
When we are ready to be attentive to hear God that when we will not only hear but have a chance for decision to continue to listen to him. A believer is to be open to hearing from God and also waiting for God's still small voice to speak to the heart and soul of their inner being. God can speak audibly but it not the norm for most, I don't think. If it is I missing the norm. However when we willing to listen to hear what God says to us, we are given the opportunity to obey him. We take time to listen for him to be our advisor in our life, to hear not only what he will speak, but good advice of the situation we are in or not in. Perhaps only to hear how are you doing today child of mine. Sometimes it to teach us how we should respond to others.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to be attentive to your word and Spirit. Help us to be willing to listen, to take your advice when we want to respond with our humanity. Help us to be attentive to those that want to hear your word and help us to share it. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Acts 17:18-22 KJV
18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?
20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.
