Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 11:11-22 KJV
11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.
19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.
20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

Isaiah 11:4 says that he(speaking of the Messiah) "shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked", Isaiah 11 is about the Messiah and him being a root of Jesse. If I could contain all the information in one place I think I would try to. However I shall not, for it been done for us called God's Holy Word the Bible. There much information available to us concerning not only God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, both in Old and New Testament. It might sound easy just to read the four Gospel and forget it and say that all you need to know about Jesus. Yet in truth it not all we need to know about Jesus but only what we need to know about his physical life on earth. There much to learn about his life on earth and whether he carried out the Spirit of the Lord while on earth. Though Jesus killed no one, he did invoke his word to cause a fig tree to dry up, on the day he enter Jerusalem to clear the Temple. Mark makes the day the temple was cleared the day after the Triumphal Entry. He would go back to Bethany after clearing of the Temple.

Let's start with the story of the fig tree as Jesus was coming from Bethany the day after the Triumphal entry into Jerusalem he is hungry felt with the need of food and he goes over to the fig tree and there is only leaves on it for it is night time for it to bear fruit. He curse the fig tree and says "unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever." I can not think of another time in scripture that Jesus cursed a thing but instead healed it or helped it in its journey. For him to curse it was also showing the disciples the power of his word for the next day as they past the tree it was dried up. To see the wrath of God on a tree yet to produce fruit because it was not its season, tells us something about our own life to beware of. To beware of God's power to destroy us before our season of fruitfulness and salvation. To destroy us before we become people of faith. When question about the fig tree Jesus said have faith in God. When we seem unfruitful that is when we need to ask God are we dormant out of season. Are we asleep when their is work to be done?

I was in ministry at age 13 teaching a simple little kids sunday school class Bible stories. Nothing wrong with filling in when a teacher is sick or on vacation. It was not every sunday morning event nor and every day event at age thirteen. I love God's word and was saved at six but i was still a baby in Christ and had a lot to learn. Yet can I say there were time of dormancy or emptiness in my spiritual life. Let's talk about dormancy, emptiness and time of unfruitfulness. There are times we may feel we are not in season to lead, to do the work of God because of things spiritually we are working through. There times in our life we might not be the best example of faith, what a Christian is, or can be. There are times in spiritual life we might not be all we can be as believers. That fig tree represents not us but the unbeliever. Listen to what Jesus said believe in God to the disciple. He was in his spiritual journey with God as he walked with Jesus. He was having trouble no doubt with the tables being turned over and the money rolling across the floor in the temple. Is this the Messiah, what I witness is it of God. We all struggle with the violence in scripture of the violence when it occurs in our life. If we see a shooter in the street even if it on television does it not frighten us to a point of wondering if it safe to go out the door anymore. This act of turning over the money changers table seems harmless in one sense because some of us grew up on this knowledge and it never occurred to be wrong in any sense. It was not wrong in God's eyes, Jesus uses scripture to point that his Father's house will not be called a den of thieves. Why is their struggle with God's word if we believe it to be accurate that God's house is not to be called a den of thieves. Let ask what about a den of vipers and wolves. If God's house is being called that is there a warning from God or man. There times in my life I did not feel very Christian, but it did not change what I believed, but my actions did not mimick Christ. Christians are human and their emotions are as real as everyone elses. Jesus in his humanity felt angry at the display of corruption in the house of God. He is God's Son and word. He is the light to the world. In the day of his actions spoke obedience to God, it also spoke conquences of man. Yet we see not this at the moment of the crime of man.

Every now and then a nut case makes the news of someone saying God told me to do this or that in regards to murder. God does not tell someone to murder, he can do that himself. He needs us not to lift a hand but maybe pray for him to inact his judgment sometimes. When we ask God to destroy something not of him, then we asking God to remove the devil out of the way. The devil that thinks he has the right to control, destroy, and to harm. What is God judgment about. We do not see judgment until the fig tree. We see Christ's rebuke on the religious leaders, and others, but never the word destroying. We think of Jesus as a loving, kind and good. One of first inspirational pictures I made said, "Why do we condemn, Christ died for mankind, and Christ judgment is coming. Inspirational card 11 in the card section. Go to dailies button and click Cards and imspirationals, then click the inspiration card button. When I made it, I admired my artwork, maybe a little vain. However you have to understand I done things by computer I will never see to do again and so these images are fun to paint to draw while I could and can. I have not found another program I like or enjoy using. Tools are important, so it a dormant time in my life concerning my artwork. I am bitter, perhap a little because the person destroyed my computer that thought he had a right too. In violated me and my freedom of speech and expression. Hopefully God will restore my equipment back to what I had and maybe a little better, before I loose my sight and can't draw. However I heard of blind people drawing. Reason why some blindness is not full lost of sight. If you remove your glasses if you wear them, you see your have some blindness prehaps, not total loss of sight but some. Depends on how bad before and with corrective wear can someone be legally blind. I do not have corrective wear any longer. It only corrects so far. It will take and act of God for my vision to improve once again.

The blindness of the disciples of the events before them only probably caused some confusion, some anger, and even some wondering who this man of God was, that entered the Temple and destroy the tables that money changers had laid out coins and products on. No where in scripture do the disciples try and justify Jesus actions. They accept the word of God as regards to his Father's house was not to be a den of thieves. The temple was not to produce thieves, thugs, wolves or snakes. Yet it seems that they let all kinds into the temple. Why would a viper cast out thieves. Yep who was in control but those that Jesus called vipers.

I do not doubt that as things progressed to the crucifixion of Jesus, that several things had to be decided by each disciple in his or her heart. Whether they had faith in God and Jesus. If they would stand beside Jesus. Jesus told his chief disciple that he would deny him three times and he did before the rooster crowed. Jesus knew all would forsake him. It was his Father's will. He would die for all, and no one could be exempt.

If you are in your denial stage ask yourself what caused you to believe and are you ready to stop doubting because of the power of God for his power to destroy is just as seeable as his power to save. However we must have faith in God to be saved. Can our faith overcome the enemy if we hold to our faith. There are days when we may feel like we are daggling by a thread over hell and we wonder if that thread will hold, but Jesus has the ability to deliver. To trust God over the enemy. To trust God over man's laws. To not act like a crazy person instead trust God to deliver. Let us ask was Jesus in the will of God? He was going to his cross to die for our sin, the sin of allowing the destruction of his house. Whose house are we? Is our heart the temple of God? If it is why do anyone allow sin in? It simple we allow many things into our house that God has to clean out of our heart. Let God clean your heart from Christ's actions being wrong. Ask him to allow you to see why Jesus had to purge his Father's house before the disciples and the world. Ask God to help each of us to know that Christ actions was the eternal will of the Father, who will come and purge our hearts of sin, and continue to purge our sin from our heart through sanctification process. The renewing and regeneration of eternal life in our soul.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to pray for deliverance in Christ name, help us to recognize the problems we face when we obey you concerning your laws verses man. Help us to be obedient to your word and to obey in regards to your will for our life as Christ obeyed your word for his life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Isaiah 11:1-4 KJV
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 KJV
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
