What Would You Ask God For 6/07/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris1 Kings 3:3-15 KJV
3 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7 And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
15 And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
If God told you, you could have anything you wanted what would it be? God our Father wants to give us good things. We may be in a rut in our life, or in a pitfall of some sort, but we not to remain there as children of God. Everytime life throws a curve ball we must remember God word comes forth straight and to the heart. No need for curve ball when you aim is straight true and fast. Devil in Solomon life already had a foothold one that God does not address here. However he will. His mother Bathesheba living in the house of women also no doubt with concumbines in the David Harem, with Solomon when he become of age to leave his mother would go forth and be on his own in some way, but now he was king of Israel. His life style was not of God and it would be his handicap as a king. Seeing nothing wrong with that life style. Now will the church let the harlots in the church and babies of harlots in? Bathesheba was not a harlot, she was married and she was bathing and David seen her. It was late night. She got pregnant with his child, she really did not have a choice in the matter to not sleep with the King. He would marry her so to speak when her husband died and they would have another child his name was Solomon. Solomon training coming not from the king but the lavishness of the women of David. He had learn to chase the desires of his heart and had not the wisdom to run a nation of Israel. Solomon loved the ways of David's God, he loved God, and so when God spoke that he would give him anything he asked for and Solomon said, "Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?" God promised to give him much more then just this but riches and honor as well. And he keep his commandments he give him long life. The promise of wisdom to judge to have understanding of the needs of the people and the understanding to rule a people was a honorable request to God.
Honorable prayer the honorable request is to ask God for wisdom and understanding in everything we do. That request can be asked for in prayer that by His Spirit we will have understanding and wisdom for our life. We are to make are petitions known to God our Father, but what we ask needs to be for his glory, honor and his will. Sometimes God gives us more then we ask, or perceive in our request. I know for fact asking for understanding and wisdom might seem like why do you need it. It simple really you walk into situation that requires it and God bless you with the wisdom and understand in that situation you going to know it is from him and not yourself. Meaning God's aiding you by his Spirit and you learn to obey His Spirit he will direct you in the ways of God. Solomon had issues through out his reign. Yet Something else is true, he took Solomon where he was in life and changed his life dramatically into a king of wisdom and understanding that shook the known world at that time. Solomon has a lot of character flaws in his personal life. That area God seems absence from, but as king he ruled well by the power of God. He made a very good king but a poor family man, though he had many wives and concumbines.
We all have flaws in our life in some areas, but God wants to change even those areas of our life if we will allow him too. Our prayer needs to be not just in the business world but in all areas of our life. David was not allowed to build a house for God and I got to thinking on this last night. He did not want him to build him house because he told him too, but because he did not desired too. David had a heart for God but never offered to build him a house. I look across America and look and see many filled churches that have welcomed God into their buildings but what about their communities and their homes. The movement of Christ being in the forefront of our nation, is more disturbing to none Christians. Maybe rightly so when you think of the Middle ages and dark ages of history. Yet many religions fall and rise across our nation, our unity not based on one religion but on the freedom of all. God allowed man to chase their heart desire. (Romans 1). It was set in our consitution of freedom of faith for one reason to protect our own faith in Christ. Though I rather see God fearing Christians in power there all kinds of people that shape our world around us. Though I long for the kingdom of Christ continual reign it will not come until his word is established as truth. Christians we must demonstrate truth that what will set our nation free. Truth hurts from time to time, but it makes better Christians because of our own faults not hidden often tell the world of our own humanity. Solomon would know from God himself his life style was not of faith in God. Many worship and believe but is our life a life pleasing to God. Is the things we ask of God pleasing to his ears? When you ask in prayer then ask with knowing God will grant you the things that are according to his will in your life and beyond what you ask will also be granted to you if you follow in the ways of God and Christ Jesus.
Dear Heavenly Father, you called Solomon your son despite his flaws in his life and you took him and granted him wisdom and understanding and more. Lord grant us wisdom and understanding in our own life that we will walk after your Spirit and do your will. in Jesus precious name, Amen.

3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;
8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
