Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 4:1-10 KJV
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

How many want riches of our world today. We live in the error of greed, pride and desire. All the things God's word warns his people about. Those with money have no need of it beyond what their eyes desire. Most people want enough money to be above their comfort zone, that if they shopping and want they can get even if it something that only a desire and not necessity. How many buy things they never need but it sits on the shelf to collect dust. Temptation of the devil is not over our needs or is it, it began with a loaf a bread with Jesus and then went to the desire of the the kingdoms of this world if he bow to Satan, with the protection of the angels that he had power over in between. Anytime he was about to fall the angels would protect him even if he jumped off the top of the pinnacle of the temple. Imagine being in human form as God and able to perform all kinds of things without assistance and if you need assistance you could demand it from your angels.

Jesus came as a man for a purpose to do the will of God. As children of God and joint heirs with Jesus the power to see many things occur is not in ourselves but comes as a gift from God. Jesus power was his own by the power of his Heavenly Father. When he used his power he did it to demonstrate not only the power of God but to glorify his Father in heaven. He healed and people glorified his Father(God). Yet his power was his to use to glorify God and it glorified the Son. Twelve disciples block the crowd from coming to close to Jesus unless he allowed it. Times when disciple got between him and the crowd and other times one sees Jesus pass right throught them even when they wanted to arrest him. All things given to Jesus in God's timing not the devil's timing. The need for now the Devil tempted Jesus with would come later by the will of God as Jesus began his ministry. At the moment of temptation he could have it all by Satan power, not really, for even Satan power had it's limited by God. Though everything Satan offer he offered not with the understanding who Christ was, until the final temptation was done. It was declare to Satan that God was the only one to worship and him alone. Jesus was worshipped, and man was not forbidden to worship him because he was Lord of all. His power came because of who he was in the triune godhead(Elohim in the hebrew). His power coming before his humanity. He came from above as a babe into our world of sin. Tempted as every man and women is.

Where do the believers get their inheritance? It is in the kingdom to come, It is in the heritance of Christ for we are joint heirs with Jesus. Yet we have a portion of our inheritance on faith In Jesus for we given the promise of our heritance of eternal hope. As believers in Christ when temptation comes we must remember; one whose child we are, two what that means in the world to come, and what it means right now as we take up our cross and follow in the footsteps of Jesus with the gifts of the Holy Spirit going before us in our life. Then we have to realize our failures and repent because on this earth we fail at the knowledge of who we are in Christ daily with every desire, want, need, and so forth. We walk in the wilderness of faith more like Israel then we want to admit. Why are we like Israel because we are God's children too and Israel is God's child too. As his children we struggle with the world we are in as humans based on needs and wants of this world.

Though desires were meet of the prophets, and elders of Israel, we have to ask, if these desires were meet because of their humanity and knowledge on how to gain more of what they had or because of God. Wealth of this world comes by human hands unless you are born with a silverspoon in your mouth. In other words we must look at our situation is it God divine intervention for you to be in a rut or achievement of wealth then you better thank God for it. Jesus was not a poor man, nor one above his means, and yet he could take several loaves of bread and fish and make a feast in our world for thousands of people. I have yet gain any power to do that to make five loaves of bread and two fish stretch for thousands, but I have learned by human knowledge God gave me to stretch a pound of meat into several meals for two people. Godly wisdom or God provision, maybe both, I thank God either way. Why because it enough to feed my husband and I, though our desire maybe for something else.

The other day my husband and I went on a picnic, we had not been on one this year I don't think. we decide to go by sub shop to take one of their yummy subs with us to eat. Of course because of the pandemic we had to cut badk on portions size even when we eat out. I order one sub and we split it in half. We did not even order our favorite sub and took a less expensive one to cut corners. While we both came to the conclusion the sub was good, it was not the same as the sub we like. There is a point I assure you. What was important the time my husband and I shared or what we ate, most would agree the time we shared not the food. The togetherness of doing something together that different then the day before. Our wants not always meet but desire for each other meet through time spent together. The situation one is in maybe not the desire cross we are in, maybe no fault of our own, and maybe it is. Yet our time one prays and spends with God is a treasured time. Whether that time is spent in a ditch, or in the palace it matters not. God spent time speaking to our hearts when he draws near to our Spirit. That personal relationship treasured with God, not in what our inheritance will be, but where we are carrying our cross for him. People want to talk about heaven, but we have no clue what it looks like beyond that it beautiful and God is the light of our eternal home. God is a consuming fire? Okay are we in hell. Not yet as children of faith when we speak of light it shines in darkness of the world. God is a consuming fire in his wrath upon man. God's children are not consumed by his wrath but given the hope eternal life through the light of Christ shining in our hearts to believe. God demonstrates light of faith and light of judgment being two different types of light thought they give light to the world in which we are in, the ligh of faith will shine for evermore.

When I was diagnoised with cancer peace came in the storm immediately, i knew God was going to take me through it. My wreck was like that as my car was pushed down the tracks then off the tracks. God is going to take us through our cross in our life time, but is not going to necessarily remove the bad parts from us. Without the bad parts how can we describe hell to someone else, about the torment, shame, the anguish we feel in this world is much like what it would be like to be in hell. Yet the peace of all understanding quiets our storm, in eternal world of hell there is no light to give peace in the eternal storm, beyong the knowledge God has allowed you to be there, because of your desire not to know him.

Our temptations in the world worth loosing our relationship with God? Is our desire for the things of this world by our enemy greater then our desire to know God? As a child God, whose child are we? Who is going to provide for our needs, and wants in the spiritual realm, who going to take us through the journey of this world with provision of what our bodies need in life. God going to be with us as we carry our cross following in Christ example all the way to finish line of faith into the promise land. Our goaled before us but our eyes on Jesus. The desire for our heritance is to hold on until we cross the finishline. Then what is our desire to spend time with our Lord or for the treasure untold. It better be to be with our Lord. Where our focus on the treasure like a pirate or the treasure of our relationship with God.

Dear Heavenly Father you are rich in your provision for us, and yet we fail to realize the most precious gift you give your children is the time you spend with us in all circumstance in our life. That your word and peace you bring is greater then the storm the devil wants to throw at us. Help us to remember we are your children upon faith in Jesus. That we are destine to place you are preparing for us. Help us to stay true to your word and relationship with you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
