My Refuge

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Psalm 91:5-9 KJV
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

These five verse in Psalm 91 seems to depict a time of war, yet we are at war with the enemy whether we full grasp it or not. The devil is our enemy, and in God we trust. There is time of fear in our life. As adult we do not want to think about having nightmares in the night as a small child would and wake up terrified. Usually an adult can shake a dream off with little thought.There world seen much darkness in the world around them. Yet it still can happen. If you not able to nod off to sleep again, what do you do but get up and do chores and go back to bed. Or you read a chapter of a book to get rid of the nightmare you hope. Maybe pace the floor and raid the refrigator. Or maybe you do all these things to be able to go back to sleep. I hope the worse time of nightly fear is a bad dream, yet in some place it is bombs bursting in the city streets and gun fire, to the rescue call in the middle of the night because of illness one is rushed to the Emergency room. The call of the fire fighter, because of a storm, fire or other tragedic event along with rescue crews to aid in the event.

Believe it or not there will always be someone in the crowd that can say they never experienced any physical storm or watch someone else go through it. They are the lucky ones. The warrior sees thousands of men and women dying, and not being able to change their fate, but know the power of the victory as they see the destruction. No one minds a villian being killed or destroyed, it speaks of the judgment of God in the life of the wicked. Yet we see those struggling out of the pit of darkness ot stand in the light and often achieve it, but those that do not wake up dead in the gutter of life.

Those that make the Lord their refuge see the reward of the wicked, they see the end result of the power that men crave, that men adore, and women lust after. They see the destruction of evil as something left in the hands of God at certain times when the laws of govenment will not take care of the evil at hand. How many in the ghetto have prayed for the evil of guns to be done away with, while the hunter in backwoods look at a gun for survival, by bringing meat to eat. To different mind sets of food for survival and protection against guns and drugs in the inner cities. Yet we look around and it almost in all neighborhoods in one way or another, people killing for whatever reason.

To see the murder of thousands at one time leaves a person wondering about the act of man unless it by the power of God. An act of God. Then we look and want to judge not knowing one soul that was consumed by destruction. Many preachers declare a storm as an act of God's wrath. It can be, but not in every case is the storms because of the will of God but the things he put in motion from the beginning of time. To know the wrath of God is to be with God as Abraham was talking with him about Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham warned why it was going to happen and God showing him from a distance what would be to those that did not fear him or seek him as their refuge. The prophetic warning of destruction.

If you ever seen the prophetic warning of destruction, that can not be duplicated by science it will shake you to the core. Yet destruction because of war, is only thought about if it reaches your shore. Seeing on TV the lives of people forced in to refugee camps and forced from their homes, not knowing if they will return to the comfort of a home is hard for America to grasp but the storm of recent years have taught. Those that adventure overseas only experience for a period of time.

As fires burn into the night and twister trace across our country leaving a trail of destruction for man to wake to the news or to the reality of what there eyes can see. Where is our safety it is in the refuge and habitation of God for every believer. Why because when there is only destruction before us, God is still with us, If there is joyful events God is still with us. If we are in time of testing God is still with us. The hymn of faith sung in the storm, after the storm and when no storm exist. That God is our refuge and our strength. That God is the Lord because to see devastation of his fury is to know God protection in the storm. God's comforting arms to the believer ready and willing as we trust in him. His wrath not on those that seek him, but on those that continually foresake him.

Seek God in the night when the fear comes, seek him in the storm of a emergency, seek him in wake of destruction, and time of difficulty. Make God your refuge because when the storm come, you will know his ability to protect and deliver you from it. He does not always remove you from harms way, but he will take you through it. He can help to overcome or he may take you home to be with him, but your life can be light for God and for his glory to help others find their way in and after the storm. Where is your heart in the storm. No one does it perfectly. When you see God's wrath, are you grasping the reality of what God's final judgment will be like.

In Isaiah, Isaiah speak about God being his refuge, that he a strength to the poor and a strength to the needy in distress, Shade from the heat and so forth. He found strength despite the enemy was fixing to over throw Israel and haul the people Of Israel into captiviity. Our course of action too those in distress need to be love, compassion, ministry of hope and not the wrath and revenge of God. We can not change the course in history only our present state of how to share the hope of faith to the the world.

Dear Heavenly Father move in your people's heart as we watch the world around us. As you allow people to be that witness at times of destruction whether by man or you, remind them you are their refuge, and you will protect them in the storm to keep their focus on you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Isaiah 25:1-4 KJV
1 O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
2 For thou hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
3 Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee.
4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
