Non Committal To Man's Testimony 1/10/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 2:12-25 KJV
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
Every day in Jesus ministry was like a new day. Meaning new events, new accounts of events. We do not have a record of 365 days, a three year account of Christ ministry, nor all that happened when traveling outside his home. This event happened sometime after the the calling of his first disciples. There are scholars that have analysis of every even of Christ and have put them in chronological order. However this story of the tables being turned over is said to be at the passover. Jesus would of experienced three passovers in his ministry. Only one passover would he turn the tables over. I use to believe this was two events by the conversation, but I think it is John reflections back from the worse event of Jesus ministry, to the cross. Meaning John reflected over the beginning of Christ ministry from that moment when human law was about to be invoked on Jesus though he did in the name of God in the since of turning over the tables in the temple. Look back at the things Jesus taught and did through out his ministry from that one event that would change the course of Jesus ministry of not only obedience to God but man only seeing it as a crime because of the one killing caused by Jesus Barrabbas(high priest son). Reflection of those things Jesus said that would happen, that would be understood at the cross. John record is not a record of events of prophesy. Though Mathew records many prophesies and sermons by Jesus, it book is writen to the Gentile nation where Matthew is written for the Jewish nation, who would of understood prophetical events because of their study of scripture. John is speaking as present journey of prophesy during Jesus ministry. Words he spoke to the priesthood that to tear the temple down and in three days He would lift it up again. He was speaking of his body, the temple of God. As Christian, one might talk of their body being the temple of the Holy Spirit but we are not Christ, The Holy Spirit lives and dwells in the believer but with our Spirit. Our heart and body still houses our spirit and our Spirit is not Jesus. Jesus' Spirit is God. John the Baptist was baptized with the Holy Spirit at conception but his Spirit was not God's. Jesus is the only man that house God's Spirit alone because he part of God his Spirit is God.
Their is movement across our land that looks like Christianity and acts like Christianity on the surface but in reality it is the antichrist because they believe they are God that their very soul is God. This is antichrist, it has been in the world for many ages. It is cultic and dangerous group. The term we are gods in scripture found in Old Testament and New Testament is not depicting man thinking himself as God Jehovah but gods of the world in the since of power of a
man. like the power or control over many things similiar to God. This is different, because the wealth or power given is much like God but is not God. Not a power to worship or honor but it is power that is often honor by man because of authority over man. Governments are much like little gods. Business men and intellects are often like little gods too. Parents can be little gods over their children when they are little but sooner or later parents are caught in their own mistakes by their children and loved anyway.
John reflection is seen also in John 10 of the laws of the Jews. I do not doubt John struggled with all he seen in his day. Perhaps that why God gave him a vision to write down and recorded in Revelations. Prehaps this recorded reflects his vision of the history of scripture from Old to New Testament in the Gospels to the coming of destruction of the temple and the rebuilding of faith. The struggle of events at the time leading up to the cross to the resurrection of Christ on the third day would be a mind blowing event and yet John would record Jesus words after as feed my sheep. His last chapter saying that all the events could not be contained in one book that Jesus did. Revelations by scholars is often seen as also part of the destruction of Roman.
If one sees Revelations as only a book of prophesy to come, one misses the prophesy that already come recorded there. John story in John tells the prophesy that occurred during the walk of Christ telling that story of Jesus from the point of what took Jesus to the cross. If you look the money changers story is over looked at the time of cross in John account. With that information on one book we see all other stories lead up to the cross. Had Jesus talked to the priesthood before the cross about him dying in place of Barabbass, probably not for he need Judas to betray him. To betray his wear abouts and location. This discourse with the Priests may of happened at the time of the triumphal entry with the discourse at the temple before he went in to where people were gathering praising God. For the Priesthood wanted the crowd to stop honor Jesus riding on a colt as a King. Was he tempted the priesthood to kill him, without their knowledge or understanding. Jesus was prepared to die for the nation of Israel and the world that they could be saved if they would only believe on him.
Jesus would not be committed to man's testimony of him at this time or anytime, because man is often changing their mind and opinions, Jesus would rely on doing what God said for him to do, following the will of God and not following the will or command of man. Laying down his life by the power of God not the power of man. He gave, man did not take his life. He gave his life for you and me, laying it down for sacrifice on the cross and paying our debt of our sin of obeying man's laws ways and our own ideas and thoughts that are not God's. Saying forgive on the cross in Luke.
Dear Heavenly Father, as we look at the record of the passover in John, of the rebuilding of the temple in three days, and see Christ body was risen on the third day, fully restore with the scars of the nails and cut on his side. May we understand John reflection back to what had occured from this moment of time is a testimony of John own conversion of faith in Jesus. May we reflect on our own story and testimony of faith in Jesus. Bring us to share our reflection so others can believe too. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Exodus 7:1 KJV
