Saw A Great Light
1/08/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 4:12-17 KJV
12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

How many realize Jesus had a home he stay at in the land of Capernaum by the sea of Galilee. It is seldom mention he had a home. Often it thought that he only traveled like a gypse and he did not. He had a place he lived and minister out in the open field and land of the area and surrounding areas he did go. When He moved to Capernaum, it was said in the land of Zabulon and Land of Nephtahalim that they seen a great light, because it was the land of the Gentiles in which Christ dwelt. Christ went to the land to teach the Gentiles and the Jews that lived in that region. He came preaching "repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand". Gathering of the lost tribes of Israel meaning areas where intermixing of the tribe of Israel coexisted at times and other times not.

We want to believe many things concerning Christ because of the way it is taught but we must examine the scripture surrounding his ministry. His ministry began in Capernaum though he minister at the wedding feast in John was in the land of Cana of Galilee not far away from where he lived. Gentiles of this region seen a great light as prophesied in Isaiah. Jesus would go about fulfilling prophecy in scripture.

Jesus did not only come to fulfill the law but to fulfill prophesy concerning him. He was and is a great light. He is the hope of the world. A light to the gentiles of who God truly is. They seen the God of wrath but not the God love and compassion for all. It had to do with sin of idolatry, sin of immorality, and sin of just pure meanness. Sin having to do with anything that went against God. Over time the gentiles would embrace certain aspects of the Jewish life style along with their own interpretation of right and wrong that has nothing to do with faith. Being a good morale person has nothing to do with faith in general. It has to do with common decency. Gentiles had no idea who this God was that the Jews worshipped unless they convert to Jewish faith by being prostelyted to the faith. Jesus ministry started in the form of prostelyting to the Jewish faith. He talked of repentance not worship to him but worship of God. Why do we worship Jesus, because he was the one we could bow to that God would allow and require of us that believe in his Son Jesus to be saved from eternal death and destruction(hell and eternal lake of fire). Jesus always prayed to his Father in heaven as we ought to pray to our Heavenly Father in heaven. Jesus always minister to whoever came seeking him. That why John 1 clarifies and speaks of God's word becoming flesh and dwelting among us. Jesus was more then a prophet but the everlasting word of God in the flesh. When Jesus rose again He became a God in the since of how people seen him. Yet he was more because He was the word of God in the flesh when among us. He was part of God that comes forth to man to obey. If we follow Christ we will pray to God the Father, If we follow Christ we learn to repent of our sin, he never had to repent because he was with out sin, but he preached repentance. We learn to love and forgive as Christ loved and forgave us on the cross. We learn how to obey God the Father and the Holy Spirit. We learn to minister to people not of our faith by his word and obedience to the Spirit. Not something another can teach but God. Christ came calling the people that reject God including the Jewish people. Remembering the Exodus story where the Hebrew/Jewish people need intercessor between God and them when the law was given in Exodus 20, I believe it is in. The need for the intercessor that God gives is the only one we need. Man established Moses, God establish His Word in the flesh as intercessor to the world. Laws of Moses gave a source of light and a source of right and wrong, even if it was not completely agreed upon by neighboring groups. It gave a code of conduct that would be carried by many tribes. and even still today. American's own laws were built on God's word.

Dear Heavenly Father help us this study to show them the need for the intercessor is still in application today. That we learn to go directly in prayer to you, but with Christ standing between us as your word and as your Son in the flesh. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Isaiah 9:1-2 KJV
1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
