Lead To Be Tempted
1/05/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 4:1-11 KJV
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

We are not lead by God to be tempted. Satan asked Lord if he could tempt Job. Jesus is the only one lead to be tempted by the Holy Spirit. Lead meaning pulled toward the tempter. To come towards to do battle with the tempter. It caught my attention that Jesus was lead by the Spirit to face off with the tempter. To go through the temptation of the enemy. Almost like David standing with Israel as they looked at the giant Goliathe. David said he would go and fight. Saul the king had him try on his armor to fight with it on, and David said no that weaponry is foreign to me, so he picks up his sling and takes this weapon of choice that he used in battle against lions and bears and defeats the giant. God's word has always been the choice of weaponry for God to defeat the enemy, whether it materialized in some form of physical actual defeat or not. God uses a form we often understand and not always spiritual aspect to explain things. This is more like Jesus was lead to the slaughter by the Spirit. The enemies words Jesus would not even bend a knee to Satan. God lead Jesus there but did not forsake him through the spiritual warfare of faith. I think upon those old westerns were the cowboy been bitten by a snake, and he is sick with fever because of the poison of rattlesnake bite and even thrashing around a bit trying to shake off the poison of the snake. There was no doctor for the cowboy to have antedote venom to be given and the time period actually perhaps spoke there was no antedote at that time, you had to fight the poison in your body, and your body internally had to be strong enough to outlast the poison from the venom. Jesus was not even wounded by the venom or even was it digested beyond the hearing of words that healed no power in his life. Devil could not touch him at this time, but only tempt him to make stone into bread, to jump from the temple, and would not bow on mountain top to Satan's resquest and Jesus would not do one thing Satan requested of him. He would not turn stones into bread despite he been fasting forty days and was at starvation. He would not jump of the temple and allow God's angels to stop him from gettting hurt. He wanted Jesus to submit to the authority of the temple. It was more of allowing the priesthood to be overtop of him. Then Satan wanted him to bow to him for he promise to give him all that his eyes could see. Satan can not give what is not his to give. Satan would leave and God would send his angels to minister to him.

Lead to fast, lead to face the enemy. Lead to conquer the enemy with the cross. Lead to handle the battle of temptation. Lead to fight for you and me. Jesus was the Son of God who would take away the sins of the world, but he had to face the tempter as you and I need to do in regards to temptation. To fight temptation we must do so with God's word and with prayer. Jesus demonstrated the quoting of scripture but in the Lord's prayer as he taught his disciple to pray, he said to say to God, Matthew"lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever. Amen", Matthew 6:13.Matthew In the night Jesus was to be betrayed as the disciples were told to pray and to pray that they would not enter into temptation. Peter would deny Jesus three times. He prayed not that night but slept, and yet he learn to pray not to be lead into temptation. Peter would deny Christ three times as Jesus had prophesied.

How to fight against temption; One: to pray not to be lead into temptation, two: to pray to have the words to stop us from being lead into temptation. To pray is important, to pray is to know God's is in charge and has the power to keep you from being tempted, though he lead his own Son to be tempted, but it was so he could defeat the enemy with his words. I be truthful most of us are not so good with scripture that we can quote as Christ quoted his Heavenly Father's words. However we know in truth not to fear temptation but if we find ourselves not on guard we do have adversary his name is Jesus. Jesus told his disciples to watch and pray. Watch that they would not be lead into temptation. Peter would not only deny Jesus but would slice off his cousin the soldier of the High Priest ear off. Now Peter could of benefit from prayer, but Jesus was his advocator and forgiver of his sin. Even the High Priest soldier at the fireplace did not speak words of anger to Peter over the ear that was restored. God does intervene in our hours of temptation too, if we will resist the devil he will flee. How to beat the enemy is to know Christ has already won first of all. Know that if like David when tempted he stopped not at his temptation but was chastised by God. To know that God's correction will be made in our life over sin. When we sin, we have advocator name Jesus that covers all our sin. It means we protected from the wrath of God not the correction of God. He will correct our hearts by his Spirit when faced with temptation.

Dear Heavenly Father you lead your Son to the enemy to defeat him, you had him take up his cross for the final defeat over sin and death. Help us to sin not, not to be lead into temptation by the enemy but to be over comers of sin that comes our way. To resist Satan and to stand firm in faith, knowing you provided our protection through your word and Christ Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Matthew 26:33-44 KJV
33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

1 Peter 5:6-11 KJV
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
