God's People In Bondage 2/11/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 13:1-17 KJV
1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
One the harsh's statements some would believe is to say judgment came to someone because a building fell and destroy someone. We look at things from why did not death occur or why did a tremendous shaking of the earth occur to take so many lives. Even devastation in our own land at times, we have wonder why these things occur. Jesus is teaching using perhaps a real live situation as a metaphor for the destruction of the sinner. There old saying if you in a plane and flying up in the air you hope it not the pilot time to die. Meaning you hope you will land safely, because if it not his time to die you going to go with him. Herod mixed blood with Gentiles sacrifice and it was sin. Which gentile sin is taking the gentile to hell. A gentile who sin is greater then another Gentile going to die a sinners death any different. If neither repent all face hell, if the greatest sinner of the gentiles repent he will be in heaven and the least sinner will be in hell. If you are on that plane that pilot die and God said you going to go to Egypt and your on a plane to Rome, you know you will some how get off the plane to get to Egypt, despite the pilot death. In Jerusalem a building in Siloam fell, and all said they must of been sinners. We all say things that we understand not. Jesus was pointing out sinner is the same as any sinner without repentance all die because of their sin. Destruction is a symbol of God's wrath, even if it not God's wrath, but nature fury or act of natural occuring events causing devastation.
The other day, picking up limbs left behind by the workers that cut down our trees. It was good exercise I said, and took the dogs with me to pick them up. Dogs were yanking on the leash so hard trying to get me to continue there walk, I tied them to stump. Stump held, but it was to close to our out building. Tico began to get himself in a bind while Gizzy stay free to roam by the leash. He went under the building around the tie down and some how knotted it, and then he continue around again to only twist it up even more. I was picking sticks and did not see tico, but was not worried about him at all, I figure he sniffing under the building and continued to pick up stick. Finally Gizzy begans to bark at me and I go over to find her friend all in one big huge knot, not being able to travel very far at all. Off comes the third leash tied to two leashes off the stump. Gizzy is completely not tangled up. Tico just a mess. I had to unhook the third leash from the first two leashes in order to get tico untangled. Even with loosing them, I had to untie several knots he had some how made. By the time the leash was able to be pulled free, tico was trying to tie himself in another knot. If I had not held his leash he would of escaped. Now I hook all three leashes back and finish the job with them pulling me as I pick up the remainder of the sticks. I left a few behind.
There is a moral to this story, we can get so entangled in sin God is the only one that is able to unbind our knots and our tangles. Yet once free we are free indeed. The who is sinner gamer and who is worse is never the issue, it who needs the master to untangle those knots and free them so they can roam again freely as the one already walking freedom of faith.
A woman bent in a bow was healed on the Sabbath and the Rulers of the Synagogue were having a fit, because Jesus made her whole. In fact they said it was unlawful to heal on the Sabbath, that was their thoughts on the matter. Jesus said you untie your donkeys, and you want to deny the healing of Israelite woman who be bound by Satan for 18 years. We want to tie the hands of those will delivered a child of God and loosen the entanglements of other sinners in their life. I will tell you when you obstruct a child of God from doing his will, and you loosen the sinner without explaining the need for repentance, you fail both people. Child of Israel knew repentance, her healing came because Jesus remove the attack on her body done by Satan. She was a child of the king. She was Israelite.
Jesus told a story of a fig tree that a man had visited for three year and had wonder if it would produce. Finally he told the gardner to cut it down. The gardener said let me have it and let me dig a ditch around it put some fertilizer around it and water it and see if it will produce fruit, if not then cut it down. Jesus is seeing God compassion in the lives of his people and some not producing fruit, but he wants to take and dig around us fertilize us and see if then we produce. Sometimes we still become unproductive, because even when our yoke tied to our Master Jesus hand, we get entangles by the things and problems of this world, that his hand the only hand that can free us. We become bounded by sin in our life, because of the temptation of Satan, and it takes Jesus' hand to free us from the bondage of this world, so we can run freely with the other sheep in his fold. Christ burden is light. This child of God born Israelite as in bondage because of disease that bent her all the way over and she could not sit upright anymore. If you go look at videos you will find where people are still bent in half this way and unable to move or not very well.
Jesus says his burden is light to take up, to take his yoke upon you. Tether yourself to Jesus. Those with cell phones know you can tether yourself to another person or their's or your equipment anyway. Yet is what they want to connect to for a good reason or evil reason. Learn to tether when you connect another device from a phone to a computer or another phone to exchange picture and such. I only done my personal computer. Jesus wants you to put his word, his testimony not only in your heart but in your mind. To be so tether to him that you do the will of the Father. Do not expect your choices will be easy sometimes we choose the wrong path and are intangled with the enemy. We need God's hand to free us, we need Jesus hand's to untangle us from the vine, from the around the things that are causing our sin. We need God to fertilize us, to cleanse us with water of his word to produce fruit.
One can finger point sin all day long, but unless one also repents one will see the pit of hell, despite your sin seems less to you then who you consider the chief sinner. Go and read the end of Matthew eleven about 6 verses up from the bottom, it talks about the destruction of a sinful city. A city known for it trouble and sin. If we think of Reno Nevada, and some cities of the midwest we consider sinful cities, we have to ask are they not more sinful then our city, think again. We are worthy of death and destruction because of our sin as well. There always will be examples of what God considers sin in the life of believer even if the whole world was cleansed from sin, because our world has the ability to entanglement or ensnared by sin, like the lust, or desire to be in Hawaii or Miami on the beach. The sin is not the beach, it the desire of having what you do not have being the example of desire being so greater that desire is fruitless. We see the world around us and wonder if what we long for is worth the cost of it. Will it be productive for our life. Most would agree any vacation even a work vacation produces fruit. Gambling is fruitless, games on the internet or phone is fruitless and less shared with another. Yet it can lower stress, be productive if in moderation of allowing your mind to exercise stragedy. What is fruitful, but hard work, and a light yoke(yoke of Christ). To keep from things less fruitful in one's life and doing things that are fruitful.
Dear Heavenly Father, we all sin and fall short of your glory, we turn from our sin and allow your yoke to lead us to a place of refuge, safety and peace. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
