Pain Of Truth 2/10/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 8:1-11 KJV
1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
If you watch to much tv sooner or later whether you are big fan of the show Cops you will at least watch one probably at least once or catch the tail end of it waiting on another show. If you watch the first time they do a sting operation you know they got their guy, only to ask how involved was the cop in the temptation of the one he was soliticiting for sex. Usually they are targeting a group of street walkers and not just some little lonely woman with nothing to do, but in truth are they setting some of these incidents into failure of the victim, because they are not obitual offenders. The failure to see because they see nothing wrong in soliciting for their pleasure or his pleasure. Now if the woman said no to officer that assaulted her and the cop walks free because he tries to claim it was nothing but a sting operation, is that true no not necessarily. A cop may of just plain and simple stalked and chose his victim, knowing if she said no he just shake the dust off his feet with no action done, unless caught by another officer. Yes there are equally dumb cops as dumb criminals. Especially when caught on radio, or in the very street by their own camera and location detector.
Today more cops are being caught, and Jesus was no acception at catching cops right before their own eyes and the eyes of the own lookers. Those that were accusing this woman of adultry in Jewish court would of had her stoned to death, but instead they brought her to Jesus. Stood accusing her by the Jewish law on adultry and even premarital sex laws. Several laws broken, after all men had more then one wife in their culture. Yet this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. We must take it that the man involved had no desire to make her an honest woman and protect her to marry her. She is standing before her accusers and those Jesus was teaching. Jesus sitting down began to write on the ground. Then he stood up and said who is without sin, and sat down again and began to write on the ground once more. One by one her accuser convicted of sin began to walk out and not return. Soon no accusers were there, but the woman stood alone. Jesus looks up and says where have your accusers gone and hasn't anyone condemned you. The woman said no, Jesus said to her go and sin no more.
Jesus was telling her that her actions were wrong. He was also simple telling her not to sin no more. He was accusing her of sinning, but not one worthy of death, or public humilitation. The story is interesting to the degree Jesus is changing the punishment right here for her actions. He is not telling her she was justified only to go and sin no more. Was there any repentance or turning away from sin. We do not know if she sin even more, we only know what Jesus told her not to do and that was not to sin.
People get caught up with the sin and desire to know the sin, that they will only focus on the sin. Public leaders and so forth are often accused and occasionally nothing happens to them. Government official are sometimes even charged and found guilty and nothing severe happens to them. They use it as a teaching tool, not to do it again. However does it help the one they did harm too. No, it only makes them angry and more angry, often vindicative in some cases. Some of what we see happening between people and our government is often that. Some would say a cop caught in the very act of sin, has just had a bad day, and nothing will legally be done to him or even her, but a correction by upper government. A good chewing out some would call it. Yet does it really stop them from criminal act in our nation. The answer is no, they just get smarter by in their crimnal activity. Some do get fired, but others get off with warning or temporary supension of their beloved job.
These jewish religious leaders got off with a warning, with an examination of their own actions, they did not have to correct the public humilitation they caused this woman, did not even pay a fee for that public humiliation. The man involved was not accused unfairly only the woman. Jesus humilitated them back in asking them to examine theirselves before casting the first stone at this woman. Was she guilty the answer is yes, by Jewish law the jewish people were not forced to be under, because of Roman law, because it had no sexual guidelines, this woman was only Jewishly humilitiated. Humiliate due to her location.
Is the church when they speak of sin public humiliated and spiritual humilating people or is the correction given only for people to examine their own heart and not as a finger pointing tool. Where is the line drawn in the business world when companies exam people work and activities that are wrong in the workplace? It depends on the action of the person some things are over looked and other things is public humilitation and correction, but the person survives to live another day in the workplace unless a crime by law. In the church world it might be different, depending on the church. For a person to there testimony can be public humilitation depending on the sin and the shunning that can occur by people not understanding something is in the past and not current issue. That God has forgiven them of their sin by salvation in Christ Jesus.
Is the majority of sin in scripture still sin in our world today in which we live? Adultery is often still shunned by some, and by others what the big deal to them. Homosexuals do not see themselves living in sin. Yet some come to church to be shunned by the church world. Yet the Bible is read and what God said is made clear, but is left to the individual to read and learn from it. If no one tells a person what sin to God is, then no one knows that God's plan for man and anything in opposition to his original plan is called sin. We are told to turn from sin like alcoholism, drugs, abuse of our bodies and others is sin. Theft, killing(including abortion or sacrifice of children to idols) is sin. To not to perserve life is sin. Any unnatural act of man no matter what it is, is sin. Yet society supports many sin, especially in the great land of America, and it will continue to do so based on freedom that is precious to all that sin.
Our land of freedom prevents people faith from public stoning and killing a person often times. If we went by laws in scripture most of us be dead by now. Jesus perhaps was looking at how culture had changed even religious people of his day. Abraham by the law was no saint. Noah by religious law would never gotten drunk. Does that mean sin is okay. No it means that America obeys Roman laws better then most churches where it says God turned people over to their sin. To outline sin, is to say these things do not please God. You maybe still sinning, but God still loves you enough to say go and sin no more if you love me. I am sacrificing my Son for your sin, will you sacrifice your sin for your love of me. God is saying can you stop accusing instead teach about sinning no more instead of humiliating the woman with accusation of her sin.
It maybe a rough lesson this morning, but in truth do you believe in God and that he sent his only Son to die fo our sin against him? At the time of the cross, was Rome put pressure on because of a man's death, or was Rome justified in seeking out about the death in the temple. Jesus did not cause the death, the man set free was the one who had killed the man, but because of the law of Rome he got set free. Jesus paid the price of the sin of the killing and rebelious act in the temple started with the money changers. Was this right? Only by man's laws, not God's laws. Jesus acted inaccordance to who he is and was. He demonstrated who he was through the resurrection. Many believers are killed in the time of persecution because of legal law and not because of faith. If killing happened in a church would not the law come in to investigate or would they honor religious law. We are talking about cultic situation where a religious fanactic believes he is acting on behalf of God. What the difference. Fanactic kills not obeying the law of do not kill, but sees himself in the right like in the time of Moses as obeying the law of killing in act of war. He become a nation unto himself justifying murder on the laws of God and not basing any law under the weight of what Christ taught concerning the laws of Moses that were based only on social laws of his day, maybe even some of Egyptian and Midian laws taught by his grandfather. Moses judgments would of been effect by the breaking of the law by these governmental rules. If you place Abraham in the laws of Moses for a moment though he does not belong in this time period, we see God loving and calling Abraham to believe, and at the time of Noah, he was righteous by belief and justified by his faith, not always his actions, but his actions demonstrated faith. Abraham's actions did not always demonstrate faith. Abraham cheated with his wife maid with his wife Sarah permission, it was never his suggestion. We see sin in the life of the forefather's of scripture and know that God still loved them and continued to minister to their hearts. God was specific who would be the heir to his plan and it was Isaac, and who would carry the son who was Sarah. Despite Sarah son was not the first born to Abraham. Sarah life important to God. Hagar life important to God. Abraham life important despite sin and temptation of his wife that he succumb too.
Jesus clearing of the temple was because is Father's house was not to be called a den of thieves. In the Temple there sat money hungry wolves selling. By government laws this was rebelious act that Jesus started, but it turned into a criminal act. It was judge based on who Jesus was the king of the Jews. He had no authority in the land of Israel by governmental power at the time of the Roman Empire who was in control of Israel.
What is God teaching man and what is Jesus teaching when the woman is humiliated, not to commend one to death by the law of faith, only the law man. Correction of faith comes inside the church, not necessarily if the law of love is applied as it should be when it is in regards to sin. The word go and sin no more needs to be applied when preaching against sin. It is that simple. You can turn away from sin, you can believe in God and Jesus and chose their way of love or you chose your own way. Jesus was teaching how to apply religious law to the sinful woman. Apply it to yourself first before accusing others.
Dear Heavenly Father, we ask you to forgive us of our sins against your way, and humbly come seeking not only your forgiveness but to continue to teach us to love, in Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: 1 John 1:8-10 KJV
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 2:1-5 KJV
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
