Seeking Jesus 2/09/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 7:32-52 KJV
32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
When I think of this passage, I have wonder had the crowd thought Jesus had gone mad in one sense. He speaks has if he going into hiding, or somewhere else that they might look for him but could not find him. If we read scripture you will find the Messiah there. If you truly seek you will know who Jesus is, yet if you seek not you can not know him. Those that wish to kill him understood not this maybe their last chance to know him. Meaning we are not promised tomorrow, or even the rest of the day. If you not saved you are in heap of trouble if you die today, because where you go you can not reach Jesus anymore. Most believed Jesus was going to the gentiles to teach them and would not be in places where the Jews where because they believed not who Jesus was. Jesus calls the people to come here him speak, to come and receive his teaching and out of their own belly would flow living water, speaking of the Holy Spirit baptism that comes upon the believer upon receiving Jesus as Savior and Lord. Jesus was beckoning the people to him to hear God's word.
Then we have people questioning how can he be the Christ if he from Galilee, no one considering he might of been born in Bethlehem and a different tribe of Israel then where he lived. Most people assume people are from where ever their current location without knowledge, but once it is question it can be straighten out with generally a home town or a place of birth. Accents are a dead give away for people from different areas, but not full proof that a person is really from a place, different people effect our accents because of children mimicking what they like to hear. People assuming because he lived in Galilee he was not Narazeen or even Bethelehemnite, but he was both. Place he grew up was Narazareth and the place born Bethelehem. Yet he was not asked and he did not supply them informationof his origin.
The constant questioning of who he is, would effect anyone but not our Savior, he continued to hear and yet he continued to teach, and allowing the words of faith fall on deaf hears and on those that would listen like Nicodemus who had come to him at night. The idea was no one was to be judged without hearing them first. And many would walk away wondering and not being able to arrest him because of Jesus words. Even Nicodemus a believer in secret would challenge them to hear.
There is place one can reach without faith that will allow one to seek Jesus no more. Pharoah in Egypt sought not God only his lust for his slaves, kept him from releasing the people to worship their God. Free to worship in faith, beyond the red sea is what it would take to give Israel the ability to worship freely without Pharaoh seeking them. Pharaoh harden to the reality of God despite the plagues coming back to back.
How much can one nation take, one group of people take before they see the hand in God in what is going on in the world? It is horrifying to see God's ability of destruction even in nature fury. Yet to know one heart is harden to the reality of God because of their unwillingness to hear God and in need of a prophet is even more devasting for Pharaoh did not even believe the prophets he sent them, with the forecast of each plague before him. The heart harden to the point the opportunity for belief comes to be no more. God drawning a line and saying you will no longer heare my call to your very soul. Jesus knew because he was present before Pharaoh as the word of God.
Those that seek God the door of faith will be opened, whether it just through meditation on the idea of God to a whisper prayer of hope to know God. God will not shut the door to anyone that is genuinely desiring to know him. Jesus knew this as well for he was sent for the purpose to demonstrate his love in the flesh of man to the world. Just because you see opposition to Jesus, does not mean the reality of Jesus does not exist. Just because you see doubters of faith, it does not mean Jesus is not real. One must grab hold and believe, knowing your decision is yours alone.
Dear Heavenly Father, you know our hearts and know whether we seek you without knowledge or with knowledge. That we long for you because we want to know this God that even shakes the earth, sends a whirl wind across and storms of hurricanes of mass destruction to speak what will be without faith. Leaving the faithful to tell of the work of God in their life in the storm. Help those reading to see the truth of your word and hold on to your love letter to them. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
