What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 29
8/29/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 4:5-10 KJV
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

The need of living water is greater then anyone fully grasp. Hagar ran away the first time found herself by a fountain of water when God spoke to her to return to her mistress and submit to her (Genesis 16 below passage). The second time Hagar and her son was in need of water when her mistress cast her out. And God sent angel to point out her need of the well that was not a mirage in front of her. How she missed I decide from the heat and exhaustion of the problem. In todays scripture reading John 4 we see a woman with not only plenty of water but the knowledge of where the water comes from. Yet it was the first time she had laid eyes on the one that could give living water, eternal life.

Many times in life we might all the water and not have direction or insight what water is before us. Other times we got the water in front of us without seeing it at all. Faith and hope in God first by his word of promise is necessary to see living water. Jesus was the promise of living water before the woman at the well in John 4. Hagar from her anger, exhaustion and thirst could not see the well or the promise to cause her to move forward. There times in life we need God's promise through prophesy, by his voice speaking hope to our soul. Hagar's son Ishmael would not be heir of Abraham or share in Isaac heritance though he was Abraham biological son though also his illegitim son, but he was not with out promise of being great by God's, only his earthly father's. The hope when angry. in need that could not be seen was the promise of a better life with generations to follow.

The women at the well in John promise was revealed to her that speaking to promise given to Israel of the Messiah. The eternal hope of our eternal future. Do see the living water and hope in our worse human crisis. Do we in our abundance of our need see pur wternal hope. God and Jesus is asking as he speaks to tour heart do you have eternal hope, then thank him for his sweet assurance of eternal life through faith in him. Ask Jesus to be your living hope for eternity no matter how you see your earthly future.

Dear Heavenly Father I receive the gift of my eternal inheritance throughfaith in Jesus, with the earthly future filled with your grace shaping my life in your perfect design. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
9 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. Genesis 21:17-19 KJV
17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
19 And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
