What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 27 8/27/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris2 Chronicles 28:1-11 KJV
1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:
2 For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.
3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
4 He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
5 Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers.
7 And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.
8 And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.
9 But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
10 And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God?
11 Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.
Many people struggle with fear of God when they have respect for God. Respect of knowing the reality that there is a God. Why is this necessary in a believers life to help controll the desire of sin only, perhaps more to know are place in God's design of the universe for we are not God. Through out the kings you will find kings obedient to God and some not in obedient to God because of there power in their kingdom. Power is one of the worse downfall of leaders. Power used wisely under godly or none godly leaders is for a purpose. Meaning there is a respect that there own power has limitations. It is leader that uses his controll beyond its proper authority/limits meaning dabbling or going fully forcely into there desire beyond what God ever intend man to use their power for or beyond there earthly wisdom, because they use it for the corruption of mankind. King Ahaz was a wicked, sinful king and yet God sent prophets to him to warn him of his sin(Isaiah 7 before yesterday reading).
Ahaz was defeat by Samaria in battle but Samaria heard from God's Prophet to concerning their wickedness. The struggles of our world comes from one victory to ones own destruction when the reality of who in control of the winning of some battles.
If you got two devils waging war one with more physical power might win but they did not win the war when God shows them judgement of Judah was based on sin and their own judgement was coming because of their sin like Judah and their judgement was coming. Puniahment on believer first and then on the sinner. God sends a prophet to speak warnings to the non believers to demonstrate his power and authority to destroy sin and also to forgive sin. When sin is at a place where repentance is long forgotten and the desire to ignore God, God's wrath will destroy the sinner. The prophetic warnings come with a call of repentance if a person inclined to repent.
God's people in Exodus fear God for they seen the wrath of God on the heathens first hand. Yet the need Moses because of their fear and the knowledge of the law. Moses became their prophet that wpuld intercede along with Aaron his brother to God. Their knowledge of God's holiness fully seen wirh there fear of God. Moses was on his journey of understanding about God because of his call in his life. His came with respect of God's authority in his life though he would sin too. He approached God in that reverence of who God was.
Where are you in your revence of God. Are you Moses, Israel time of Exodus or Ahaz and Samaria? Is your faith looking through the window glass and watching others with faith like Moses and Israel. Or are you a gambler rolling dice taking a chance that your okay and what you do, in your on thinking does not matter to God? I grew up playing Yatzy and what learn you really can not control chance nor chance in life what you roll determines the score nothing you do will change it. I like crochet it is productive work. You know when done your labor has value. You roll dice it has no value unless it quality time spent with a friend that knows whoever win it okay time together was all that matter. It is the one whose winning is greater then the friendahip itself will learn no one wants to play again and you have lost a friend. Do you value friendship with God or are you making war with him by continue the desire of sin that hurts others? God sending a prophet as a go between should tell you his wrath his kindled already take heed.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to draw near to you because of your love and mercy for us. In Jesus precious name, amen. Continual Scripture Study: Exodus 20:18-26 KJV
18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
23 Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
24 An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
25 And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
