What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 21
8/21/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Exodus 4:1-17 KJV
1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.
2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5 That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6 And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
7 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
10 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

One of the earliest time God began to actually ask man question in discourse we see man struggling with not only what God says but what God ask of man. God spoke to Moses first from burning bush. God tells Moses to go take his people into the wilderness. Moses struggle what if they will not listen to him. God said I will give them a sign. He gives to signs one of a rod turning into a snake and back into a rod and the second his hand turning to leprosy and then being restored. We got to remember if we read ahead the magicians of Egypt could do such parlor tricks. How did Moses feel for he been raised in the Pharaoh house. Yet God said he even turn the water to blood on dry land. Yet if you watch television discovery shows on these things you know about red algae in the River Nile. Some things were done by God to get the Pharaoh magicians to come and try to duplicate, until they would duplicate no more.

I do not doubt Moses was taught and educated some about the Hebrew in his growing up years for he reverence God enough by removing his sandals on Holy Ground in front of the burning bush. Yet there is more, Moses seem to be awkward with knowledge of how could he go and how could he do, and who in their right mind would believe him. Pharaoh sure did not even up to the death of his first born, before Pharaoh let his people go.

Moses fear of not being able to speak for God came with not full understanding on God's ability to teach, to instruct, to chose the right person for the job. A manager highers someone based on training, but in truth if the person can not hear, obey, and follow instruction, he is like a dumb animal to the manager who will fire him/her if he does not learn to do all he is instructed to do. God's choosing Moses, his qualification he knew how to lead sheep. He knew what it was to be a ruler in Egypt though he ruled none. He knew what was to kill to protect the people. His qualifications not so good. However God needed someone that would be patient with his flock, that would guard and protect them and obey his voice in the wilderness. Moses understood not his call but understood Aaron his brother was coming to help because he had told God he was not smart enough to do it basically. He was telling what if I can not speak your words, can not say it like you want me to say it and so forth. Moses because of his brother coming to aid, would become like a God to Aaron instead of God. There alot of truth to this, for Aaron would obey the people and make the molten calf to worship when Moses was taking a long time in returning to the people. Aaron would not be killed for his actions because he was just obeying the people. Aaron was not a man with a backbone but would become a man of faith in the wilderness, a man called by God to do the sacrifice unto him, and to lead the priesthood. Moses was consider more of a prophet then a priest.

Do not be ashamed of your response to God in the situation you understand not, know rather God choosing of you for a purpose is far greater then your own understanding of the situation. You must come to a place you will say God, I will say what you want me to say, I will do what you want me to do, and be all you want me to be, with your ability working through my life. It was never in Moses ability that he lead the people, he was learning to obey and trusting in God to do more then he understood was possible. When water came forth from rock, do you think Moses was not amazed. When manna and quail fell from heaven do you not think he had to wonder about this God. When the water depart to cross over the Red sea do you not think he was amazed even after all seven plagues. God seem to protect Moses from the angry mob with it only being two in leadership. Think on it one man in the wilderness leading a group of people that equal more then ten thousand families and livestock. This was not man ability this came by the power and authority of God to bring Israel into a nation unto themselves.

When God comes calling do what he ask, do what he says, and obey his voice and it all will be okay, even to the cross and the resurrection. God's voice worth obeying because God's plan and will, is accomplished by his command. Now our ability but his alone. He is the Great I AM, the everlasting Lord.

Dear Heavenly Father remind us of your ability and help us to say I will do what you want me to do, I will go where you want me to go and be all you want me to be, for I am in you army. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
