What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 19
8/19/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 5:17-26 KJV
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

As Jesus began to walk in his anoint he spoke with power, He not only spoke with power like they had not seen before but he began to demonstrate his power through miracles. One such case came friends who had heard of Jesus who lowered their friend down through the ceiling of the building. Jesus spoke to the man and said your sins are forgiven, Pharisees wanted to know who Jesus was that spoke blasphemies, because God was the only one that could forgive sin. Jesus wanted to know what they reason in their heart. Which was it easier to say to a cripple man his sins are forgiven or to get up and walk? And he told the man to get up and walk his sins were forgiven. And he picked up his mat and went away glorifying God.

Christ authority and power demonstrated in this healing, but not only that the power to heal and forgive was the power of Jesus as well as God the Father. We all can forgive what others do to us, but can we tell them to rise up and be healed from whatever ailment has come upon them. God is the only one that can give that power to forgive, he gave it to all mankind, but the power to forgive sin eternally is only God's and his Son power. When a believer prays and ask for healing for someone, they are not doing it in their power as far as the healing, but asking God to do the healing in his power, by the authority in Jesus name. Jesus knew he had the power to heal, man did not understand he had the authority. Do we have the authority to heal only in the name of Jesus do we have the power to pray asking for God's will to be done in the life of individual concerning healing and other request the person made known or asked for as unspoken request.

We are instrument of God in the healing process. And instrument to pray and make all request known to God. We must rely on God to do the healing, to perform the miracle, and to speak to our hearts all by his Spirit. Jesus came with power and might. He came with authority in the world. Many prophets have been people that seem like they had power to do great things, but it really the power of God. Jesus had that power and he spoke with that power, that no one else could speak it until Jesus sent his people forth speaking in his name.

Peter and John after the resurrection and the ascension of Jesus began to preach in the name of Jesus with authority God had given through his Son. Has they preached they came to a man outside a temple where they were, and told the man in the Name of Jesus to get up and walk and he did. One of the first miracles recorded of the Apostles after the day of Pentecoste in another city. Not the only miracle but one of many that they would do, but the one that got them in trouble for preaching in the name of Jesus by governmental authorities of that day, but they did not stop, why because they knew the power of the name of Jesus, the knew the authority Jesus had on earth as well as in heaven. They understood who he was.

We really know who he is before using his name. The one password to God that says this request is coming from one of your children. This is one that knows your Son Jesus and his power and authority. Most of us that use the name maybe never think of it quite like that. You will now. We must understand that power we pray in, but the power Jesus had has he walked among us and that power today he still has as he stretch his hands forth from heaven to ours, to those in need. If you are believer that power to pray in Jesus name is yours. You have that authority. However you do not have the authoirty to be the healer, only the instrument of God has his servant and child to help do the praying. Remember your authoirty is to ask, Jesus authority came on his command as the only begotten Son of God, who has the power not only to forgive sinners but to heal.

Dear Heavenly Father, remind us who we are as your children that we are your instrument and tool by which others may come to believe in you, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Help us to remember we are humble servants chosen by you. That you are the king of kings and Lord of Lords. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Acts 3:1-21 KJV
1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.
12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?
13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
