What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 18
8/18/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 12:18-27 KJV
18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,
19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.
23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

Jesus said, the Sadducees made an error by not knowing the scriptures or the power of God? God makes the believer like the angels in heaven. They are not given in marriage nor do they marry. Those that are in love, you are only in love I guess for a life time. Sadducees believed not in the resurrection and perhaps in their speech it was more of a joking type of question. But Jesus question to the Sadducees was serious one, for they believed not the scriptures. Jesus uses a simple passage to find concerning the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob at the time of the burning bush. How can God be a God of these three if they are dead? For God is a God of the living Without the story of the transfiguration making the final point with his own disciples not Sadducees, this theology of rising from the dead might be in question. Without those coming out of the graves after Christ own resurrection, perhaps those around would never have believed. Yet Jesus points something out more grimances or grievous and that the power of God not being believed. The power of God being distorted by the religious leader and that is pointed out as a great err.

The stories old not enough to prove the power of God nor the power for their day according to the Sadducees way of thinking or belief. It like we claim the power of God over our illness and disease but the word cancer, or the word heart problems, or the word incurable comes rushing to a scientific diagnois and do we then forget the power of God, because he heals all our little boo boos, instead of the harder things that are hard to trust God for. How are we then going to trust God to raise us from the dead if we should die before Christ return, or how will we believe that Christ paid for all our sins if we walking with such lack of faith over disease and other things that come our way.

I have a dream, that despite the fact I believe it possible it harder to believe it would ever come true. Yet it has only to do with a desire of my heart and not something that will effect my eternity. It easier for me personally to believe in an afterlife then open doors of my future. Stranger then fiction, many of us walk in this facet of thinking as believers in Christ. Why because the afterlife is not right this minute so it seems, no from the day of salvation we knew Christ entered our heart and if we knew not then we were having to be taught this, surely not. Jesus entering our hearts is taken on faith, but the feeling the joy that comes to many is evidence that our decision to ask Jesus into our hearts spoke the reality of the truth of it. Why so we would continue in faith believing in Christ, or that our faith would be ignited to know the power of God was real through our emotion? No that we know the joy we felt was also the joy God felt as we united with him in our heart and soul. He wanted us to know he to was joyful as he enter our hearts. Those that felt nothing, I sorry but you going to be walking the road of you got to trust that Jesus forgave you when you asked, or you going to walk in the deadness of unbelief and why so when you just did the best thing you could ever do by receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life. Prehaps you are like the Sadducee wanting to believe in the power of God, but you just not there because your looking for evidence yet that reality of God's power is all around you.

Hard to not examine the wings of a butterfly without knowing God's intricate designs are greater then our understanding. To understand the laws of our earth is different then heaven. Jesus spoke to the Sadducees about the laws of marriage having nothing to do with God's laws of faith. To understand that when we cross over from this world to heaven, something has changed and we are servants of God like the angels of heaven. That concept of being servant, yet a child of God, and like an angel not given in marriage other then being the bride of Christ, but not to the earthly person we were married too. There those that grieve the loss of their mate in life and rightly so that it causes their own death eventually, never understand on the otherside their is no marriage but to the Lamb. Might as well be prepared to start anew life after you loose your love of your life. Though the words sounds harsh the reality there is a time of mourning and sorrow, but at some point we have to rise to a new life of learning something new of finding that emptiness is not going away, but that others in our life are just as important in a different way to our well being and even our sanity in this life. That our human life does not stop with the greatest love of our humanity outside of faith. That our life is able to continue because of our desire to continue on and be more then just living for another all our days outside of our faith but of our desire. Our life being more valuable then one solitary relationship outside of eternity. God designed us to be faithful to only him as believers, and our eternity will be with him, but our design on earth was to interact with more then one person, but to mate with only one person at a time. Men seem to think as long as they were married, it was okay to have more then one helper in life. That not so. God designed us to have one mate and maybe other mates with the passing on of our first mate perhap. Some find love more then once in a life time. Yet no doubt they grew because of each relationship into the person they are becoming.

In Jewish culture people given in marriage would marry nearest kin of their mate, when they died. This in truth is one culture thing I will not continue in no matter what. However it was part of tradition of being their brother keeper even with death, of their brother even inheriting their brother belonging as well. The woman was seldom an heiress of her own making or her dead spouse making. As a bride of Christ once we are saved we wait for his coming to receive us into his kingdom or for our death to be then received into his kingdom. We are already a child of God, we are already transformed in faith to be the bride. The church is the bride of Christ. There is no change in our position upon death as being the bride or heiress in God's kingdom. We not only bride but we are joint heir with Jesus.

Yet we believe all the things concerning the power of God for our eternity and like the Sadducees we lack faith in the power of God? it makes no sense, but we know that with the walk of faith God teaches us to believe. Jesus was speaking to the Sadducees about their own hyprocrisy and correcting them with their thinking on eternity. We all lack faith in the power of God to do something. It might not be our eternity, but it is something in our life that we feel we do not deserve, or something we thing we can not reach it in our power and not sure if God will enable to reach in his power and strength. Can we climb to the mountaintop in our strength, definitely not, no matter how good a hiker, why because it takes Holy Spirit's power to make it to the top of God's mountain where we experience the Hallelujah power on the top that seems to have no end. Yet we have to walk in the valley when we reach the ledge and take a leap to continue in our faith. To walk in places unknown or familiar to us. God going to judge how we walk, and our work whether it of him or the works of vanity of our minds, the vanity of our own making. The vanities will not stand, but the things God empowers us to do will outshine all the rest. We find the power of God is greater then our own thinking or design. His power will do mighty works in our life.

Dear Heavenly Father Jesus seen the real issue of unbelief in your power and even his in the lives of the Sadducees. Help us to rest in your power to do great things in our life according to your will and purpose for our life. Empower our faith to have the hope we need not just for our eternity of our soul, but our life we live upon this earth that will wax old. May your power shine forth that the world praises you for your power and glory in our life, In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 62:1-11 KJV
11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.
12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.
