What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 14
8/14/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 12:20-33 KJV
20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

The last feast before the passover the Greeks wanted to see Jesus. This story may seem insignificant until you look closely at the words Jesus speaks to the Greeks that wish to see him and to his disciples. Jesus said, "The hour come that he should be glorified. Verily Verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal". Jesus speaks of his death, but also the process of which hope would come through him rising from the dead as a corn planted in the earth spring forth life and more life because of it. Jesus continues to speak of the fact that those that followed him had to lose their life and hate their life enough to follow in his footsteps. Not to love the here and now to give up the things of this life for his sake. To not value the things of this world. God honors his servants, that follow Jesus.

Jesus question is his soul is trouble; he ask what shall I say? Have you ever talked to someone and when you finish speaking they say what do you want me to say. In truth there is nothing more that can really be said, because either the person hears and understands or they do not. Jesus speaks to his Father to "save me from this hour, but for this cause I came I unto this hour. Father glorify thy name". A voice came from heaven saying I have glorified it and I will glorify it again. Now some thought it was a voice some thought it sound like thunder or angel spoke to him. Jesus declared the voice came for their sake. The prince of the world must be cast out, signifying the type of death he would die. He die on the cross outside of the city of Jerusalem. He was called the Prince of peace.

The voice is significant because it came with Jesus not asking but that it came to glorify God's name. Coming from heaven, as his power is reveal once more like the day of baptism as he says this is my Son whom I am will pleased, but this time he says he will glorify his name and will glorify it again. He demonstrate before the greeks who he was. They came searching at the feast for him. They searching for evidence of who Jesus was and yet they need only the evidence God gave. That same evidence that Peter needed to follow Jesus after his baptism. The same testimony he gives account to in 2 Peter 1:17. The same evidence that given to those listening to receive. One more chance to know for themselves who Jesus was, not just the Greeks but those that were around him asking questions before he would go to the cross and die a cruel death because of the sins of the world and not one thing he himself did wrong.

What can you say to Jesus for what he did for the world, you and I by paying the price for our sins on the cross of Calvary. What can you and I say besides we receive your sacrifice for sin, we receive your act of love and mercy and we thank you and glorify you for it. God glorified you so we should glorify and magnify your name as well.

Dear Heavenly Father we may have nothing to say but we need to listen, and as your Son glorifies your name in the world let us hear your magnification of you glorifying his name through out the earth as well. He loved the world enought to loose it with his death, but yet gaining the whole world to himself that would believe upon his resurrection. Help us Lord to understand the significant to loosing what we understand not and gain what we long for into eternity when our time comes. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Matthew 3:16-17 KJV
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

2 Peter 1:15-21 KJV
15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
