What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 5 8/05/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 16:13-20 KJV
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
Why is Jesus divinity not so clear in Matthew. In fact Matthew 4 during the temptation of Jesus, Jesus tell Satan himself that you are to worship Lord thy God only and him shalt you serve. And of course Satan is self serving and adores only himself. At the end of Matthew 28 we see the disciples worshipping Jesus at his feet with some doubting. Colossians speaks of Jesus being complete having the fullness of the godhead bodily. God the Father, Christ and Holy Spirit acting as one seen in three person, showing the fullness of the divinity of the triune godhead. Jesus title is Son of God, the Holy Spirit is Holy Spirit and God the Father is God but God is Spirit and his Son who is the word of life. That is who I say Jesus is and back it with scripture. Who do you say Jesus is? Peter said he was the Christ the Son of the living God. Jesus said to Peter upon this rock he would build his church. The rock being the solid evidence of who Son of God was and his Father.
In Matthew 14 those that were in the ship came and worship Jesus as the Son of God. Yet in John more then a few days back in Devotions we see a quarrel between Jesus and Jews on whether he even be a son of God equal to the same nature they were as sons of God in the since not equal to God but children of God express in the laws of faith. Jesus divinity not fully seen in Matthew though perhaps understood by some of the disciples by the end of Matthew. Who is Jesus teaching in Matthew, who was the book written too. It was written to the Jewish people. Jewish people being people of the Old Testament of faith and yet with the promise in their heart of the Messiah to come with blinders on of who the Messiah is and was. If you were told all your life to worship one God and only him, would worship Jesus or the Messiah, or would it look like a betrayal of faith. The answer is yes and no. Yes because they see him only as the son of God not even Son of God capitalized. They can not see the divinity, only him as a teacher or prophet like Samuel. Yet Samuel performed sacrifice while Jesus became the sacrifice to save the people from their sin.
When we worship Jesus we are worshipping Jesus as one with the Lord God knowing he is the word of God in the flesh according to John Gospel in John 1:1-14. To understand to worship Jesus you are worshipping all three parts of the godhead according to Paul to Colossian church. Many people say I will worship Jesus and not God of the Old Testament because he is a cruel God. Never realizing God sent his Son Jesus to save us. His word has always been the life flow of his people. His word became flesh in the form of Jesus in the womb of Mary(Luke 1). Yet Jesus was also more then the Messiah but one with the Father according to John 10:30. How he is one is because he is part of God being his word, the pure word of God and faith. The purity of his word before man corrupts it. God's word coming to man, man taking God's word and corrupts it. Corrupting the word itself not Jesus. Man could not corrupt Jesus, nor could Satan, though he tested him. Yet without Jesus being who he was the tempting of Man showing his kingship through the triumphal entry, tempting him to show his kingly title, to not do so would never had caused the cross. It was God's will for Christ to go to the cross, showing man the temptation of exalt one self can cause death, not being the time of Jesus to rule for eternity, thought he was truly King. Jesus being still in submission to God and not man went to the cross and demonstrate he was a king. His word can not be changed by man, his position as Son can not be changed by man. Yet Jesus was fully who he claimed to be.
Who do you declare Jesus to be, the Son of God and his divinity fully part of the Godhead bodily, fully God equal to his Father. Or do you only see him as one of the prophets, and ministers of faith. Peter was at the baptism and witness God himself saying he was his Son who he was will pleased. If God the Father own testimony along with the Spirit landing on his shoulder, should be enough evidence of who Jesus is. But many still wonder. Have faith, know why you believe Jesus should be worshipped and adored today. Know in your heart the word of truth. Dont' just know it as part of your testimony, know it by the word of God by scripture. Know the God of both the Old and New Testament is worthy to be praised.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for sending your only begotten Son into the world that we might have life and to know he is worthy to be worship along side you making you all one together with your Spirit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Matthew 28:17 KJV
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
Colossians 2:6-12 KJV
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
